I rarely review a sushi place, but for Sushi Mastro Nikkei, I felt that I had to. This sushi place is small, yet surprisingly cozy, with great seat setup that is not forcefully tight, giving the exclusivity feel. Albeit the small space, the number of attendants is ample to cater to your every need. They are clearly well trained too, knowing inside out of the menu, and are far from shy to recommend you on what should be ordered. And they do this gracefully, with plenty of manners and smile. Just for the customer service alone, I 10/10 would definitely go again. Now let's talk about the food. First and foremost, the Sashimi. We ordered the usual Salmon, Tuna, Otoro, and Chutoro. These come with 3 pieces per type. The size of the cuts on these Sashimi are in a lack of better words, perfect. Not too thin nor too thick, giving the chomping feeling pleasurable and tasteful. The Sashimi all tasted fresh as expected and managed to fulfill my tastebuds expectations. Exception to the Tuna, as it felt somewhat lacking in the taste department. Maybe it was too frozen, and the taste had a little bit diminished. But still, it was an enjoyable, tasty experience. We also ordered the local fish's Nigiri, and they tasted too well balanced. The sushi rice is made perfectly to balance the local fish taste so that none of the elements would counter each other. It could need a little bit of soy sauce and perhaps a tiny bit of wasabi, as those element would bring out the fish taste more (in my own opinion, but mind you I am not a professional chef, nor a sushi aficionado). But for all the raw fishes involved, 10/10 would definitely order again. Other food aside from the raw fishes also tasted beautifully, such as the fried rice, the Tuna Satay, the grilled Norwegian salmon. A noteworthy mention, the Tigre Mentai Batayaki was so flavorful. It surprised my tastebuds a lot (as I am not really a prawn lover myself). Overall, I think this place is a fantastic sushi place. The service is exceptional, the foods are fresh and tastefully wonderful, and the atmosphere is perfect. The only downside is the price is quite affordable for a sushi place (still a bit expensive for commoners like me to dine in), but for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. Kudos to the friendly staff, chefs, and everyone else who worked hard that made me want to contribute to...
Read moreWe had a reservation at 8pm and the table was ready the moment we arrived. Had their strip loin with chimichurri sauce, seafood shirashizushi, chawanmushi, few nigiris and dessert.
Overall I would say it was a pleasant experience. The food was up to par, i would rate most dishes of the dishes an easy 5/5.
For the strip loin, we ordered a medium rare but we got a medium rare on the edges and rare on the center. Most probably from the uneven heating. But its okay since we can eat our meat raw anyways. If I hv to nitpick, the sauce does overpower the taste of the meat, therefore lightly dipping is recommended. The salt by the side just add an intense flavor for the meat therefore I'd recommend. 4.5/5
The shirashizushi is recommended as well. Small chunks of sashimi with marinated rice in most probably sesame oil and soy sauce? But the portion is huge. If you're coming in two, this is good enough for sharing. 4.8/5
The salmon nigiri is worth trying since it tasted so different than any other nigiri with the toppings and all. Worth the price and definitely recommend. 5/5
The dessert is the star of the day. They serve it after your meal. Fruity cheese and light. Although your stuffed you will always have room for dessert. 5/5
Overall it was an enjoyable night. Attentive waiters always there to refill your drinks. They explained most of the dishes and asked us our feedback after each dish. Will definitely come back for...
Read moreGreat ratings on the restaurant so far, on the contrary, I am giving them an average rating. My friend and I visited on a Saturday lunch at 12:30pm. The waitress called a day before, mentioned that we will need to finish by 2pm for the next batch of guests. I am good with that.
It was full house. The restaurant is really small, with indoor and outdoor seatings. To maximize the usage of space, tables are placed very near to each other, which I personally isn't comfortable with. When the guests in the indoor cafe started to speak loudly, the whole restaurant is so noisy since it's closed and small. We literally have to speak so loud to each other to be heard. It is definitely not cozy.
After seated, browsed menu and ordered, we waited 45 mins ~ 1 hour for the food to be served. By now it's 1:30pm, so, we have 30 mins to gulp the nice food. We don't want to stay over the time given because that will be unfair for the next customers.
Food is pretty but immediately after taking photos, you are gonna pour the bowl onto a plate. Now the pretty toppings are on the bottom of the plate covered with rice on top. Taste is good but you can find similar food and quality at Isetan Lot 10 LG floor.
I personally will not come back. It does not worth my time and the money spent. I didn't enjoy...
