It was my birthday and my younger brother decided to buy the family dinner. So here we were at Thai Cup.
Classic Tom Yum without the coconut milk (gives me gas). You can't go wrong with this Thai standard and Thai Cup did bring it. I would have liked it to be a bit more sourish but no complaints. There was a generous amount of fish slices (dory), shrimps and calamari too.
Thai Style Stir Fried Mincemeat (chicken). This restaurant does not serve pork but liquor. I would say this is a pretty typical dish that will not wow you and neither will it revolt you.
Thai Fish Ball (there is a Thai version fishball?) was next. Very bouncy fishball indeed and tasted pretty typical on its own. What made these fishballs tasted much better was the chili sauce that came with it. And it was a sauce that did not taste like any other Thai chili sauce I've tasted before. I could see why my brother orders these fishballs every time he's here. I guess my conclusion is these fishball were nothing until they met this chili sauce.
The highlight of the dinner belongs to the Steamed Siakap (Barramundi) that was doused in garlic and lime sauce. My brother said it's soup but it tasted more like a sauce to me. And no he did not pay a thousand ringgit for this siakap. I like this dish because of the sauce, I mean soup. The fish tasted fresh and together with the soup that is savory and sourish, I was so tempted to go for another plate of rice. Luckily I did not think with my stomach that night. Or was it old age that prevented from making that decision? It was my birthday after all. Anyway, yes it was the highlight of my dinner.
Calamari Salad. This was more calamari than salad to me and I did not mind at all.
Fish Cakes. Can you leave a Thai restaurant without having some fish cakes? No. But was it good? I would say it was what I had expected it to be. Nothing to get excited for but will leave you satisfied nonetheless.
Stir Fried Pucuk Paku (Jungle Fern) with Belacan. I simply love this dish. The pucuk paku was not fibrous but really crunchy. Together with the belacan sauce I was again tempted to have another plate of rice. But I was really surprised at my newly discovered willpower to resist the temptation.
To sum it all up. Thai Cup is worth your time, a long drive if you don't live within the vicinity (that speaks for 99% of Klang Valley folks) and your credit card on standby. And you are tempted to go for more...
Read moreOverrated review I reckoned. Mixed feeling after a recent visit... A lot of areas need improvement though. Ordered two appetisers and four main dishes plus two desserts. Miang kham - betel leaves were small and dry, sauce tasted bad Mango salad - mango overripe and soggy instead of the usual crunch Prawn with glass noodles - burnt, so glass noodles were stuck to the pot. Too much salt added as well Tom yum seafood - fresh seafood but could be less salty Plain egg omelette - fluffy and nice Fried squid with basil leaves - squids were rubbery and swimming in a watery and bland sauce Tub tim krob - too sweet, not mad about the pink colouring added Mango sticky rice - tasty Others: We, a party of five were given a table for four - far too small, not enough place to lay out all the food as well Supposedly hot tea in pot was served cold Food was served swiftly after order was placed. Unsure if the quality was compromised though as a result of...
Read moreI absolutely love this Thai restaurant! Can't believe I didn't discover this place earlier. Their food overall is quite delicious. Their tomyam seafood soup is quite nice and not too spicy that you can't enjoy. Tried their Japanese tofu with mix vege and also their stir fried beef ginger, also yummy. Their portion are quite big, so be aware how many dishes would you like to order.
The prices are reasonable and manageable if you know how to order. But it's worth it because its taste and portion. The ambience is quite relaxing as well. Can eat indoor or outdoor. It can get crowded during dinner time, so plan ahead to book if they allow or just come by early.
Perfect for couples or group of family and friends. Price range for 3 main dishes with 3 rice and drinks, can be like RM100-150. But again, worth it. Another great Thai restaurant discovery....
