OMG This is the worst Chinese food that I've ever tasted. I'm very disappointed that the standard of an Oriental Group Restaurant has dropped so much.
We ordered the special prawn dish which comes in half portion at RM36. What we were served is more like a shrimp ( because it's soooooo tiny!) cut into half and in a huge bowl of sauce. This is considered two portions which is the minimum order for this item.
Then we had the ribs which is RM56 per piece x 2 pieces, which was chewy and hard as rock. We have had ribs at other Oriental Group Restaurants before. It's definitely not like this.
The captain sent it back and said they will give us pork chop instead because it is tender. So if your chef doesn't know how to cook ribs properly then why is it even on your menu?
Did your chef forget how to cook after the MCO because it's like not much thought is given to the preparation of the food?
The other dishes - acceptable but nothing fantastic in fact it's not tasty. It's worst than "Tai Chow" level but at designer price in a venue with no ambience.
The service is very bad! We were seated very quickly. But when we asked them to take our food orders, we had to ask three different waiters, and each of them disappeared saying they will call the caption. But after half an hour, nothing happened and nobody appeared to take our order.
Finally, after a long time, a lady appeared to take the order. While the waiters are polite, they don't understand English, Chinese or BM because they are foreigners and can't communicate. If you ask them for anything, they can't reply you or attend to it.
It was crowded and the noise level is extremely high. There is not much ambience and the restaurant layout is not conducive for a meal.
This restaurant is NOT recommended! If the food is nice, then we don't mind the price, but the food here is not nice and...

Of all the Oriental Group of restaurants, The Ming Room is one of very few that I’d go back again & again. Something about this restaurant - perhaps it was the food, perhaps it was the service, or perhaps it was the whole atmosphere - that got me driving all the way to Bangsar to dine.
Calling the upscale Bangsar’s neighbourhood mall BSC home since 2003, they have established themselves as I’d always call up to reserve a table.
▪️Appetiser - crispy enoki mushroom with preserved bean curd. Couldn’t ask for better appetiser than this - just like nam yue pork belly but with enoki mushroom. Thought of eating this slowly but the kids polished it. ▪️BBQ Platter 2 Combinations - siew yuk & char siew here are one of the most consistent. ▪️Deep fried spare ribs with red wine sauce - tried this for the first time. While it was flavourful, the sweetness didn’t go well with my wine. ▪️pan fried Australian beef steak - at the request of the son who always order this whenever we go here. ▪️Indonesian style curry freshwater prawn served with fried mantao. She couldn’t resist the delicious Indonesian style curry that does well with mantao, or sometimes we would order vermicelli because curry & vermicelli are match made in heaven! ▪️Half smoked farm chicken - perfect dish with our wine. The smokiness was prominent just not overwhelming. Must order. ▪️Steamed rice with salted egg & meat cake - the kids like to eat this.
For so many years of dining in The Ming Room, I’ve never encountered unpleasant...
Read moreHaven't been here for about 2 years and surprised by the renovations. Still spacious and now with more rooms. Came on the Saturday of a long weekend at 11am. There were only like 5 other tables there, and maybe a few in the rooms, so was quiet and we had great service. At one time, I counted 5 waiters attending to us as they were serving all the dishes, portioning the noodles on to plates, and refilling our tea at the same time. Overall was very impressed with the service, they kept pouring our tea and changed our plates. Not sure what it's like during peak though.
We were very impressed with almost all the dishes we ordered, except the Hakka wax meat rice which was plain and ordinary for the price. Also kind of regretted the Typhoon har kow, the normal har kow is already very good. Siu Mai and Lor Mai Kai were very good, fried Loh Bak Gao was very good and good size. Yin Yong snow Char Siew Pao was something different and good and had to order twice. We splurged and tried the soft shell crab fried rice and that was really good, coming in a big claypot, it kept its warmth and was bigger than expected till we had to tapow part of it.
Price of dim sum outside has really gone up, so here it felt like we were paying 50% more but getting 2 to 3 times the quantity and quality compared to other so-called mid-price dim sum. You can see our bill for 4 people. Yah, not cheap, but based on our meal, it was worth the value and experience...
