A hidden gem that is truly, hidden, nestled within a corner of a kopitiam yet it stands out with its line of eager customers, setting Tung Jing apart from the other myriad of stalls offering an array of local dishes. They are known for their tomyum curry noodles, dumplings as well as a variety of dimsum, taking pride in meticulous preparation of their dishes, ensuring a delightful meal by incorporating handmade elements into their food. Anticipate a wait of around 30 minutes, although our experience only required around 15 minutes of wait.
We indulged in three bowls of their Tomyum Curry Noodles priced at RM12.50 each, one of them with their signature handmade fishpaste while the other two were adorned with their renowned dumplings. Upon the initial sip of broth, we were washed over with a profound sense of amazement, the flavors were a delightful fusion that you can't find anywhere else. A fragrant and rich coconut milk broth at its core, yet the tangy and sour undertones from the tomyum elevates the entire dish, creating a symphony of flavours that ensures each bite remains invigorating and doesn't bore, instead enticing your tastebuds to consume more. It's truly a perfect blend of flavors, and dons a very light spice that even children can enjoy as it leans towards fragrant than spicy. However the stall has multiple chili options that you can scoop and enjoy yourself, catering to spice lovers.
The handmade noodles brought a unique textural complexity to the dish, offering a satisfying bite to each mouthful of scrumptious laksa, crafted using a specific type of flour that is distinct from the norm, which extends the cooking process and waiting time but enhances the final result. The delicious strands of noodles are short so don't expect to slurp them, but rather expect easy consumption that's also ideal for elderlies, children, or for those who appreciates the act of eating daintily. The dumplings proved themselves to be delightful, their delicious and tender nature complimented by the perfectly cooked skins and plump and supple filling, however the fish paste stole the show for us. Possessing a "Q" texture and providing a delightful spring to each bite, all while maintaining smoothness thats satisfying on the palate.
It's a unique dish that I will definitely return for. About a 15 minutes walk from Taman Midah MRT station, they open at 10am until 3pm but they open earlier on public holidays....
Read moreI’ve been here a few times over the years, there are a few advice that I would like to give to those who has not visited this place before.
Food wise, the quality is quite good especially the TomYam noodle. The dim sum is ‘seasonal’... depending on the time of the day and the crowd... it can be fresh or it can be soggy (due to overcooking/steaming).... Overall the dim sum is nothing to shout about.
Service wise, well this is an area that they have consistently failed and it has never been improved. Staff are rude at times, you will feel ignored, you will feel like cursing them due to their inefficiencies. Food take very long to arrive and at times you will just have what is brought in front of you rather than waiting for the food you want to order since you will be very hungry. Kids will feel restless due to the long wait for food.
If you can look past all the issues related to their service, feel free to visit them since it is one of the better dim sum place around Cheras area... I always tell myself that I will never step foot to this place again but over the years I tend to end up at this place when looking for dim sum and every time I will curse myself for doing so. In short, the Tom Yam noodle is quite good, dim sum is OK, but the service sucks. Be...
Read moreNostalgic place to have the superb curry-tomyam noodle and some homemade dim sum. The curry-tomyam broth is honestly my favorite in KL, not too spicy, very special, sour and savory at the same time, perhaps 70% tomyam and 30% curry. The noodle and soup are cooked upon ordering, so expect at least a 15mins wait even if there is no other customer in the shop.
For the noodle, you have the options to pair with either sui kow (chinese dumplings) or fish paste. I went for the latter one. The fish pastes do not have the chewy texture that I anticipated like those in yong tau fu, instead they are soft and I think they added minced pork in. Not the best for my liking but it was okay. Homemade dim sums taste all right, not very impressive yet homey-ly decent.
Besides, I love the location. It is fairly convenient, less than 5mins walking from MRT Taman Midah. It is also quite a sequestered spot as it is not situated within the Taman Midah's business centre (the side near to Tesco), hence less crowded. Lastly, I would suggest them to improve the lightning for a more photogenic environment, the shop...
