This place was a mixed bag for us. Started well enough with a suckling pig, which was not crispy, but now chewy, so still ok. Won't say it's that great as have eaten really good ones in Bangkok and Singapore. Fried noodles (I think it was mee sua) was nicely fried and tasty. The tofu dish was well rendered and had generous amount of home made fried tofu. It was nice except the sauce was too starchy and had a smell. The weak link was the yam basket. It came with a messy rendition of curried vegetables in the yam basket. The curry was not nice and spoiled the whole experience and our perception of good yam basket dish. There was oyster egg, but it was kind of tasteless. The braised pork with bao (kung bak bao) which took very very long to arrive was really awful as it was all fat and not edible. we had to throw away the extra baos as the pork was inedible. The sauce for the kung bak bao was also overwhelming and too salty.
When we asked to refill our glasses of water, they said they had to charge us for the 2nd glass. That was not indicated before we ordered. Really put a bad experience to the whole dinner.
Place is posh and used to be really nice. There was a wedding dinner upstairs and I think they can't manage a full house and their good chefs may have been focusing on the wedding. This return visit has made us wary of this place. Looks flashy but food didn't taste good any more and service staff curt and...
Read moreGreat restaurant for family gathering as they have large tables that can accommodate up to 15 people. Most nights will be packed so expect not to be seated immediately. Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment. Service can be a bit slow as they have to attend to many big tables around but staffs are attentive and quick to respond.
There are a variety of Chinese food choices and all are quite good. However, I highly recommend these dishes to have a great experience in this restaurant.
CURRY CLAY POT PRAWN WITH BUN. The curry was not very spicy and very tasty. Thick and creamy curry broth with large prawns. The prawns were juicy and fresh. The buns served along with it really compliments the curry. It was the best bun I've tasted, super soft in the inside and surprisingly crispy on the outside.
PUMPKIN WITH FRIED BITTER LEAVES. The pumpkin was creamy and very light. Surprisingly the vegetable tasted really well with the pumpkin and was super crispy.
HOMEMADE FRIED TOFU. The tofu was light and fluffy and stuffed along with what tastes like spinach. The sauce was a light chilli tomato base. Overall a healthy light option.
BRAISED PORK WITH MANTOU. Like all braised pork, it was fatty but very tasty eaten together with the mantou. It has nothing special as compared with other braised pork dishes but...
Read moreThis is an excellent spot to enjoy authentic local food in Melaka. I visited with colleagues and had the opportunity to savor their delightful dishes during lunch. The restaurant has been newly renovated, featuring a bright and welcoming interior.
One of the highlights was the fried pork belly with salted fish—absolutely delicious and perfectly paired with a bowl of white rice. A must-try! The tofu with rojak sauce was a unique twist and surprisingly addictive.
The fried cereal prawns, though not a local specialty, were skillfully prepared. The prawns were crunchy, with the cereal adding the perfect touch of flavor and texture. The steamed grouper fish was another standout, cooked simply in soy sauce to let the freshness and tenderness of the fish shine.
The fried egg omelette was a comforting addition to our meal, bringing back nostalgic flavors reminiscent of my grandmother’s cooking. The fried chicken was another highlight, expertly marinated with juicy and tender meat. A simple stir-fry of lotus roots with nuts and greens added a refreshing touch to the meal.
Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant, and I would...
