Visited for 2nd time on 8th August. The shako are much better now and of course fatter than last month. Unfortunately I did not manage to get the giant shako cos today is Thursday. As per the staff, they import ingredients via air transport every Friday. For today, I have tried the otoro, which is good, grilled shako, which is quite good, and fried shako rice. They are all not bad. For the skewers, the scallop is good while the yakitori kinda normal. All in all, good food as last time. First visit and review on 6th July. A restaurant specialised in shako(mantis prawn) sushi. However currently not the right time for fat shako. Will definitely revisit during August for better shako at its best season and review my rating after that. I paid 380 ringgit for beer, sake, shako sushi, Uni don and some sides. The Kawamura Mutenka Uni is sold at 180 ringgit per 50 gram. It definitely worth the price and tastes amazing: creamy and a bit sweat. The shako sushi is not at the correct season and only normal. The aged hotate is well prepared and with a balanced texture from the fried scallop and the slice. The Ozeki sake pairs well with the food. Though a bit spoiled when served hot, still nice. Given I will revisit the shako sushi again, I rate its food 4/5 temporarily. The service is attentive but the flow of food needs some improvement. Alcohol served a bit early, earlier than snack and dishes. Really appreciate that they offer some complimentary seaweed for me to make my own hand roll. Shout out for their great service. Atmosphere is good and...
Read moreIt is indeed a hidden gem in mainland Penang. A rare Japanese restaurant that serve sea mentis (虾姑) at reasonable price! Other than sea mentis, all other seafood is extremely fresh which is bought by the business owner straight from the fishmonger everyday. The grilled salmon, squid is so nice, the Hokke is really big and the Tamago is the best I have eaten in the whole Malaysia.
The ambiance is very cozy and homey, where is owner and waiters will will introduce themselves, chat with the guest to understand their taste preferences! A must-come if you love Japanese food, fresh seafood and authentic Japanese...
Read moreVisited the place due to high rating but turns out to be a disappointment. Perhaps some will argue that the price paid is fair for what's given but imo it's not worth it anyhow.
We ordered 3 dishes : Shako Don Egg roe on it is very fishy & unfresh -Apart from sweetness, can't taste anything about the mantis prawn -Not very good quality rice given BBQ Hotate Once again, sweeeeet, nothing else to shout NI Teppanyaki with Tiger prawn & squid done in black pepper -Very strong black pepper taste, covered everything else -Squid wasn't fresh as there was an odd smell to it (even with the black...
