I had a pleasant stay here at iconic hotel penang. Room was clean, aircond was perfectly fine. Gym equipment was up to date, pool was nice although the size was just ok. Ping pong table was really useful. Happy hour tea time for in house guest was someting new for my hotel experience.
Here come the bad part about the hotel, i guess the breakfast buffet menu need to be on a rotational basis. The korean section macam not really needed or maybe need to improve the menu i believe alot of korean expat stay there hence the buffet was there. One thing that i find it hard to swallow is their strict rules on food intake. You must eat all of their food everything at the restaurant, cant take out even you are going back to your room. Good that they really take care of food hygiene but do you really do a proper action on taking care of all your food? Like the food temperature, covered or not, away from any insects and etc. I was finishing my yogurt while walking and going back to my room, but one of the service guy stopped me and wanted to take my yogurt cus they said the action that i do is wrong. Mind u i am eating the yogurt from the packaging i am not eating using their plate. Even if you are really being that “caring” about your guest well being and tummy and wanted to avoid any event that involve food poisoning and dont want to be blamed, with this action i feel like it is not accurately right to do so. Mind you i am study and work in the hospitality industry so i know what i am saying. Its sucha bad experience for me to experienced this.
Then the room, although i said the room was clean and etc but do you know the room was non soundproof? i literally can hear what my next door neighbour was talking about, i overheard a very loud bang from upstairs room in the middle of the day. I had a mini heart attack from that situation. Imagine if couple who came for their honeymoon, the privacy that every guest should get was being voilated………..if you know what im saying………….
Another one about the loyalty program, goood that you have it as your pull factor to attract exisiting customer to stay in but if i can recall on the 13th stay or 15th stay, member are eligable to get “free wine” what about your muslim member who eligable to get this entittlement? What are the offering that you guys will replace? In house fruit juice’s? Look at the management team photo got muslim guys as well, why dont the muslim suggest to improve on this matter?
I believe my comment is hard for you to swallow for the team to digest but honesty is the best policy, i hope you guys take into consideration on whatever that i commented here. And if i can recommend this hotel to my friend, all the bad experience will be part of my story telling.
Keep it up guys, will come back for sure hoping the experience will be different on my...
Read moreIconic Hotel has recently revamped their Friday and Saturday night seafood buffet and I went there tonight with a couple of foodies from town.
I would say the choices of food is excellent - lots of varieties, lovely fresh seafood choices, cheese baked shellfish, japanese selections with sushi, sashimi and tempura, live-stations for fried oyster omelette and seafood & meat grill.
These popular items on the menu surely overwhelmed the other less prominent items such as the basic mushroom soup and bread selections, kangkung sotong, cold cuts and cheese platter, deep fried sotong and lobak.
There are also a good selection of mains - some of the higlights that stood out for me include salted egg carbonara, wok fried mussel with black pepper sauce, seafood teriyaki, and teow chew braised duck.
Their fresh seafood choices consist mainly of imported spannar crab, crayfish, shrimp and mussels ~ very fresh and tasty indeed.
For the grill section, you pick your own meat or seafood and they will cook it for you. Choices includes lamb, beef and chicken and for the seafood, shisamo, smoked salmon, squid, green mussels and scallop. You have to wait a while for your items to be grilled, and tonite wasnt too busy and it took about 5 minutes. Might be longer on their peak Saturday evenings.
The double boil soup with black chicken, dryed scallops and herb was amazing as well as their cantonese steamed shrimp with glass noodles.
For dessert, there is a host of amazing pastries by their in house pastry chef and another standout in the buffet line is a papaya with white fungus dessert. There is also a dark chocolate fondue station on this buffet line. With all the delicious pastries, the ice kacang station looks a bit deserted.
Another highlight for dessert is also unlimited refills of MerryMe ice cream as well as some ice-cream potong.
Prices for the Seafood Buffet happening only on Friday and Saturday 7 to 10pm are RM98+ and 50% off for children and birthday person and 30% off for senior citizens.
Do give this latest buffet promo in town a try and the first 30 person to use my promo code AC_FHBD will get a 15% discount while the rest will get a 10% discount off this price.
Parking can be slighty challenging outside the hotel but then you can always park in the multistorey parking facility...
Read moreIt is a new hotel, located very close to happy hour pubs and restaurants with similar concepts. Have the basic amenities: gym, swimming pool and free parking for guests. The gym is good, consists of 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical machine, 1 stepper, 2 different work benches, a good old type bench and 4 bicycles (different models)
However the pool is very small, about 2 x 13m (estimation here) with 1.2m depth's throughout which is not suitable for kids.
It has a minimalist concept which is fine if you are travelling for business purposes until you have to wait for 40 mins for iron delivered to you despite already booked it three hours earlier.
The bed is superb. The food is sufficiently good for a hotel.
Wifi is frustrating for my room. But I was too knackered to bother the front desk. It works very well the next morning though.
The main point of a very generic rating is: the room. I was placed on level 8. Someone must have been smoking inside the room (or outside) prior me checking in. The neighbour in front also openly smoke in his room in the late noon. Try to imagine an enclosed air-conditioned hotel being used that way. Also, the drainage is really poor (for my room at least) . Prior to coming in, some subtle stench in the toilet were noticable. By the next morning, the smell is so prominent and I noticed coming from the loo line. Please be inform that a friend in another level did not experience smoking smell. I was not made aware IF the level 8 is smoking level when I was checking in.
If you are planning to conduct a seminar or workshop with half of the population being Muslim, you might better consider other place. The musolla can only fit 5 ladies at best and is actually for the staff.
All in all, I think it is an...
