Completely overrated or over-advertised. Visit here because of they so called "come Ipoh must try" & "see the long queue".
Ya, long queue, but long queue doesn't meant anything about the food.
Food is below average, overall is salty. Each the xiao long bao is on an aluminium plate and the xiao long bao stick on it, if you trying to remove the xiao long bao from it, the soup will spill out due to the skin of xiao long bao broken. Then the lor mai gai (Steamed Glutinous Rice) doesn't stick together once removed from the aluminium bowl the rice crumbled.
With the pricing, can get way better dim sum in Penang or KL, probably is cheaper than here.
Staff is not attentive enough, queue need to take number but there's no staff to arrange the queue, so when the staff come they just ask the most nearby person to her for "how many pax" and "are you here first or who"...erm...do you really think it works that way? Besides, they wipe the table not clean, the staff show us the way to table and pass over menu without wiping the oily table and just walk away and that's it. And want to add-on order also hard, no staff are attentive, most of them just serve food and walk back, not seeing around other table that seeking for their assistance.
Atmosphere is not bad, as so as the tong shui. Unfortunately, no...

Have been to this dim sum restaurant for a couple of times over the years. It was deem as one of the popular dim sum restaurant in Ipoh beside Ming Ge near to town.
But today we tried the dim sum again but was very disappointed with the food standard. Not sure why was this so. Maybe there is a change of chef or ownership?
We ordered the following
Fried Chee Cheong Fun ⭐️⭐️ Dish was prepared with a little spice and I really don’t know how to appreciate this dish.
Fried Carrot Cake ⭐️⭐️ Don’t have the usual wok hei that carrot cake should have. I think they pre cooked the food and served making it hot.
Fish Noodle ⭐️⭐️ This is the first time I tried fish noodle and I don’t really fancy the texture of the noodles and the soup was bland
Fried beancurd skin ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is probably the best out of today meal
Chicken Feet ⭐️⭐️ Sad to even comment on this simple dish that was cooked so badly.
PS : they only served white coffee ☕️ ⭐️⭐️ (I prefer the Hainanese coffee)
Overall my experience with this dim sum restaurant has dropped to ground zero. I will never come back again.

Came to Chooi Yue Dim Sum in Ipoh on June 6, 2025, around 12:45 PM. What a magical experience—if you're into waiting endlessly, being ignored, and eating food that tastes like it gave up on itself.
The concept? They bring food around and you pick what you want. Sounds simple, right? Apparently not. Despite arriving earlier, we got the privilege of watching other tables (who came way later, btw) get served first—twice. We even gave them the benefit of the doubt—it was a busy lunch hour, lots of tables, sure. But still… god damnn. After pointing it out, they nodded politely… and then did the exact same thing again. That’s commitment, I guess.
Now, to be fair—food taste is subjective. Some folks might genuinely enjoy what they got. Personally? We found it all painfully mediocre. After that kind of wait, you’d at least hope for something memorable. Spoiler: it wasn’t.
The only thing that didn’t let us down? The Chinese tea. So congrats to the kettle, I suppose.
Would I come back? Only if I were conducting a case study on how to alienate your customers. Strong pass....
