been wanting to try this place for so long and finally could after they changed their business hours. what a pleasant experience.

we had hummus and bread for app and mediterranean chicken and ai funghi for mains. the highlight and deservingly top recommended was the mediterranean chicken. every component of the dish, the chicken, risotto, broth all tasted great. the portion is generous too. i would definitely come again for this!

the amount of mushrooms in ai fungi really honors the name. it definitely felt like 50% mushroom and 50% pasta and as someone who loves mushrooms, this made me so happy. the only thing, the fried enoki which added a nice crispy texture might've been fried too well as it leaves a burnt taste to the dish. otherwise, another enjoyable dish ♡

i love hummus and it's really HARD to find decent fresh ones around ipoh. by my limited palate, they have great hummus. apparently, the hummus are also available to order? i must try it one of these days. i also like how they finished the plates with sprinkles of zaatar (?)

all in all, their mediterranean menu is definitely unique by ipoh's standard. their spirit to support local produce and farm to table approach is evident in the quality of their food. the food we had were all fresh and served piping hot.

galanggal cafe definitely deserves more hype and love for offering a unique menu at an affordable price. hope to...

Just like the namesake of Galanggal Cafe – a pungent peppery spice; all these dishes are marvellously imbued with a medley of local herbs and spices.

Simmered slowly for several hours in a spicy arrabbiata sauce for that delightful tenderness, the superbly seasoned lamb shank was further enhanced by the creamy bed of heavily spiced Baba Ghanoush and paired with the juicy, crunchy burnt kale cooked in duck fat.

The duck confit was slowly rendered and cooked in its own fat for a good 6 hours before pan-frying it for that crispy skin and finished with a special glossy glaze. Although leaning towards the drier side, the remarkable punch of flavours together with the chunky lentil curry made it a splendid dish.

Bursting with intense, tantalising flavours and cooked to a perfect firmness but not al dente since it’s a term only used for dry pastas, find every strand thoroughly coated with the savoury, spicy hot relish.

The flavours doesn’t stop there as the enticing variety of mojitos were all incredibly...

We gave this place a go because it was recommended by a friend. We went there about a month ago. Hopefully the food doesn't always taste as salty as we had it . Chef needs to control their seasoning, everything tasted salty and not in a good way. We couldn't taste anything else that was in the dish. We ordered fettuccine , hummus, risotto, shashuka and some drinks. Drinks were good actually so nice work there..

Another thing to top it up was when we asked to take away the balance food. The waiter attending us was a tall malay chap with glasses on. He nodded when we ask to take it away and deliberately throws away our food in the bin just after picking it up and didn't even bother to apologise, then the cashier had to come and make an apology to us and asked if we still want a new dish. OMG talk about unprofessional . The least they could have done was give a discount on the meal or cooked...

Galanggal Cafe can be found out of Ipoh town and would require a 15 to 20 minute drive from town but its playful and creative menu would appeal to adventurous eaters (at least it worked on me). Manned by a team of young Chefs, the menu comprises of a mix of international cuisine with some playful twist. But the beautiful part is it does not cost an arm and a leg dining here- the serving portions are generous and the price points are affordable. Baba Ganoush with crispy Toasts was a good start albeit a little on the sour side. Gnocchi Garden caught my attention when I was browsing the menu- the Gnocchis were home-made but they were pan fried and served on a bed of greens. The texture was a little rubbery and a tad too dry to my liking, I am still the purist who prefer my Gnocchi served in luscious creamy sauce.
