We came for breakfast after a long hiatus. This time it was recommended by both Najwa and Daniel. So, as parents we simply obliged...
Daniel immediately ordered the Beef Satay, as we were seated right next to its stall. While Najwa was still wondering around seeking what she missed the most, my wife came back to our table and proclaimed that she had ordered the Fried Char Kuey Teow Special for all four of us! I couldnt say no to that special delicacy, and nodded agreably..
Najwa came back with packets of Cakoi, to be taken with kaya, obviously one of her long time favorites! While waiting for our foods to be delivered, we were approached by a chinese muslim gentleman, who is selling his homemade delicacy, called "Chang" He went about explaining to us about the significance and origin of the food, which he had also dubbed as "Ketupat Cina". Apparently, he also works as a Bilal or Muezzin, the person who calls for prayers, at the Muhammadiah Mosque in Ipoh. This particular mosque is famously known as Masjid Cina, or the Chinese Mosque, as it was designed and built according to the chinese traditions and architecture...

Read moreThese types of restaurants (is it a kopitiam?) is very Malaysian-like that I honestly feel like we need more restaurants like these. It is so diverse in race (we have Malays, Chinese and Indians here) with all types of profiles and ages, all eating and just enjoying each other's company. Hard to find another place like it.
Okay, on to the food. We ordered the Spicy Pan Mee and the Char Kuey Teow. The pan mee is not bad, so is the char kuey teow. I mean it's pretty good, but probably not the best I've eaten. I guess the primary goal of eating here is the ambience of the place itself, which like I said earlier is harder to replicate in other places (for halal food of course). It's crowded, hard to find a table, and you probably won't feel too comfortable here.
And yet, this place makes me feel more like a Malaysian than other places. So in conclusion, I would definitely come to this place whenever I find myself in Ipoh again. But I guess I'm more here for the vibes (as Gen Z usually says) rather than the food.
Came for the food, stayed...
