Update August 2025: Flies are still present in the restaurant. I am downgrading my review of Sushi Mentai Kampar due to do horrific hygiene practices of staff.
The sushi chef places each order chit on the food preparation board. That order chit had been placed on the open table where numerous customers and waiters have touched it and where flies have landed on it. On top of that, the sushi chef took out a container of ingredients from under the table and also placed it on the food preparation board.
As I was waiting for my order, I saw a waiter clean the plastic covers from customers' empty sushi plates off the conveyor belt with a paper towel. He put his unwashed hand on the inside of the cover and wiped the sauce on the outer side. Then he wiped the inside with the same paper towel which I could see was getting soggy. He did this to several plastic covers, placing them on the unwipe, fly infested table. After that he stacked them up with the other 'cleaned' covers.
I asked the waiter if they even wash the covers before reusing and he really answered, "No. We just wipe them." When he saw the look of horror on my face, he added, "But we do wash them..." At that point, I kinda wanted to puke.
The cross-contamination in this restaurant is appalling! The staff and chef have little regard for hygiene - just look at the greasy floors and overflowing bin at the sushi chef counter.
Definitely not returning until the restaurant overhauls it's cleanliness standards.

However, Kampar's Sushi Mentai experience was definitely below what I expected. Firstly, when we entered, thr was no greeting, just a brusque 'how many ppl?' in Cantonese. The ambience was pretty standard but the smell of the place was actually pretty strong, considering we were the first few customers. Food: Few example.. Chicken teppanyaki, they don't taste like how we usually hv them in Selangor. Erm, I'm not sure how to describe but they were not tasty. Salmon wrap, the rolls were stuck together. Shiro ramen looks poorly presented as well. I thought I ordered wrongly for a minute. Presentation matters. Tempura moriawase, they were soggy and the oil smells. This was horrible for me. Even the kids rejected these. Salmon teriyaki Don, salmon was rather dry and tasteless. The soup was good though. Chawan mushi, it was unappetising, n the smell was rather strong as well. 首先,等餐超过40分钟,期间问了三次,才告诉我们原来有些食物根本没有——如果我们不问,是打算让我们等到天荒地老吗?几乎每一道餐点都要我们催才会上,连一份普通的毛豆都等了30分钟,最后还告诉我们“还要再等20分钟”?重点是这还不是主食!
更离谱的是绿茶里居然有苍蝇,我们叫的热茶壶还破裂,茶倒出来的时候洒得到处都是,桌面全湿,完全没道歉没补偿。最气的是服务态度极差——店员不是随口“ok ok”打发你,就是一脸臭脸,根本不想理人。
以为这样就结束了吗?结账的时候还给我乱算价格!收银员说黄色盘子11个,红色7个,我们三个人直接傻眼——我们自己有在算,根本没吃那么多,而且我们还点了饭类,哪可能吃到这么多盘?结果他们自己讲“盘子收掉了”,所以不确定我们吃几盘,反而问我们吃几个?这是什么逻辑?幸好我们有自己算,不然就是白白被他们坑!
总结:上菜慢、食物出错、环境恶劣、服务态度差、结账还乱来,这样的店真的不值得花钱支持。强烈建议大家避雷!
Just dined at Sushi Mentai Kampar — the experience was absolutely terrible. Not recommended at all!
First of all, we waited over 40 minutes for our food. We asked three times before they finally told us that some items were already unavailable — if we hadn’t asked, would they have just let us wait forever? Almost every single dish only came after we reminded them, even something as simple as edamame took 30 minutes, and then they told us we had to wait another 20 minutes. And it’s not even a main dish!
To make things worse, there was a fly in our green tea, and the hot tea pot they served us cracked, spilling tea all over the table. No apology, no compensation. The worst part? The staff’s attitude was horrible — either brushing us off with “ok ok” or just giving us dirty looks, acting like they didn’t want to deal with us.
And just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, they messed up the bill too. The cashier claimed we had 11 yellow plates and 7 red plates — the three of us were shocked. We had been keeping track and there’s no way we ate that much, especially since we also ordered rice dishes. They even said they cleared some plates so they couldn’t confirm how many we had, and then asked us how many we ate? What kind of system is that? Luckily, we counted ourselves — otherwise, we would’ve been overcharged for nothing!
In summary: slow service, food issues, poor hygiene, rude staff, and billing errors. This place is definitely not worth your time or money. Avoid at all costs!

Pertama sekali, kami tunggu makanan lebih daripada 40 minit. Tiga kali tanya baru mereka beritahu bahawa beberapa menu sebenarnya sudah habis — kalau kami tak tanya, agaknya nak biar kami tunggu sampai bila? Hampir semua makanan kena desak baru mereka hantar, malah edamame yang sepatutnya cepat pun kena tunggu 30 minit, lepas tu mereka kata masih perlu tunggu lagi 20 minit? Itu pun bukan hidangan utama!
Lagi melampau, ada lalat dalam teh hijau kami! Dan teko teh panas pula retak, sampai teh tumpah atas meja — meja jadi basah, langsung tak minta maaf atau beri pampasan. Paling menyakitkan hati, sikap pekerja sangat biadap — kalau tak jawab “ok ok” dengan sambil lewa, muka masam macam tak sudi layan pelanggan.
Ingatkan dah habis drama? Masa bayar, mereka pula kira harga pun salah! Kaunter cakap kami makan 11 pinggan kuning dan 7 pinggan merah — kami bertiga terus terkejut! Kami kira sendiri, tak mungkin makan sebanyak tu, sebab kami juga ada pesan nasi. Lepas tu mereka pula cakap “pinggan dah dikutip”, jadi tak pasti kami makan berapa, dan tanya balik kami makan berapa? Logik apa ni? Nasib baik kami memang kira, kalau tidak dah kena tipu dan rugi!
Kesimpulan: servis lembap, makanan bermasalah, kebersihan teruk, pekerja kasar, harga pun salah kira. Restoran macam ni memang tak layak untuk disokong....
