Okay. I just took my wife here to celebrate our Anniversary. Expectations did not meet reality but it was still good overall. What I thought it was a posh place that is semi formal and romantic, well, it wasn't.
It was still a posh place. The food is good (above average). We ordered their mushroom soup and their Borscht soup. It was good. Very interesting to find a piece of bacon in their mushroom soup, we also ordered their clams with miso (can't remember the exact name in the menu). The clam dish was very nice, very tasty.
For mains, we had the pan seared salmon and I had the signature Signature Shoulder Loin pork steak. We were pleasantly happy.
So the food, we give it a four (4) out of five (5).
The service. I can't blame them. Seem to be understaffed. They were doing their best and were running up and down. So yes, service was slow but had full house. We were on the first floor but some of the time, no server was around. Had to wait for one of them to come up and get their attention to get some service.
My typical complaint of such a restaurant is that the food (the mains) comes one at a time. My pork came first, and so I had to start eating before the pork becomes cold. So my wife had to watch me eat for 10 minutes before her salmon came. I would give more points for service if they can serve at the same time. So that no one starts their meal first before the other. For such an establishment, it should be such. However, this isn't the case here in 33 Blue Room.
My take: Not enough servers but when they were around, they were attentive.
Three(3) out of Five (5)
The ambiance I thought it was a semi formal kind of environment (looking at some pictures and the price). It wasn't. You can come in T-shirts, with shorts and flippers. Which meant that me and my wife was a bit over dressed (what we felt). And it was a bit noisy.
The noise level isn't the establishment's fault directly. But my wife and I had to raise our voices a bit at times to talk. Wish they had curtains or whatnot to absorb the ambient sound so that it won't be so loud.
But again, it's not their fault.
The lighting was dim. Almost like a romantic (hence I thought it was a place for romantic dinner). It was dim, a bit too dim. My wife and I were struggling to read the items off the menu. I had resorted to turning on my torchlight on my phone to read it. But other than that, the place is kept clean and...

I had the chance to try the Grilled Chicken Chop, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly al dente, and the sauce was creamy and flavorful. I also had the chance to try the Tomato Chic and Fish and Chips, and it was equally impressive. The crust was thin and crispy, and the toppings were generous and flavorful.

Read moreWent there on the Saturday night before Mother’s Day with my husband for a date night. I choose this restaurant for the good reviews on the ambience and food quality.
But I have to say, be ready for unexpected guests at the restaurant like big families and kids. While I was hoping for a romantic dinner with my husband, we had kids almost everywhere in the restaurant. A group of little girls were singing and playing London Bridge is falling down right behind us 😬 I don’t blame the restaurant cause I think they are made for group dining, especially on Mother’s Day weekends, there were more families with kids and elderly than young couples. So the whole restaurant was pretty noisy.
Probably due to large volume of orders, we had to wait for around 45mins for our food. The portions were slightly small, however we’re happy with the flavours. I had the pan seared salmon fillet. Very happy to find that they didn’t overcook the salmon, which happens very often. It was well seasoned, crispy on the skin but the flesh was still juicy. The mashed potatoes were flavourful and with the right sticky creamy texture. I wish the fillets were larger and there was more mashed potatoes. My husband had the stuffed fried squid. It was very delicious! Interesting combination to pair the savoury, fragrant fried squid with sweet corn kernels. We both enjoyed that dish a lot. Again, the downside, the portion was small. We both were still feeling hungry after dinner 😬
The staff was polite, friendly and helpful. We asked one of them to help take pictures for us, he made an extra effort to make sure the pictures turn out fine.
We would have really enjoyed our time there without the noise and the wait. We still loved the interior of the restaurant, industrial, vintage vinyl record shop kinda vibe.
For improvement, I hope the restaurant could increase the portion size and warn the customers of extra long...
