Came into the cafe on a Sunday 10am with available seats. Saw the crowd starting to come in around 11am.
We had the Big Breakfast, Mentaiko Potato Tamago Tartine and Saba Fish Kabayaki.
Big breakfast - flavours are all good. The sourdough was toasted crispy and nice. Omu egg though wasn't seasoned. However if u stack up the ham with egg onto the sourdough to have a bite, flavours are all good.
Mentaiko Potato Tamago Tartine - nice but very filing. The mayo ratio is more than the egg. Though when the mayo mixes with the salad, it somehow taste good.
Saba - first bite (rice with egg and furikake) was great match of flavours. But once mixed with the omu egg to have a bite, the flavours felt unmatched. Omu egg was not seasoned (bland) and the amount of egg on (with the egg partly left runny), the more you ate the more you feel "geli" and lost of appetite. The saba fish was well cooked and seasoned as its own. But when you have a whole bite together with the egg, rice, furikake and bonito flakes, the flavours doesn't match. Till the end of my dish, I felt unappetising mainly due to the runny omu egg still lingering in my stomach which made me uneasy.
The only dish that's worth a double thumbs up was the Matcha Charcoal Flan. The outer Base was crusty and flaky, matched with the matcha filling that has a balance of bitter and sweetness, which made the whole bite wonderful.
The environment of the cafe was homy and cozy. However, the staffs were not attentive (service was good though). Unattentive as we noted that despite of the less crowd, some tables were served water while some had not. Noticed that there were no self service water table available, we waited for quite some time, but the water was still not given to us despite we saw they were serving to some tables. They only served it to us after we asking them.
Overall, flavours of the food are there, but the composition of the food flavour and the price may not justify the need to return for more often. Probably once in a while for the Matcha...
Read moreThose who are familiar with SS2 should know that the current location where Butter & Spice operates used to be occupied by Lobsterman (a favourite place for lobster in PJ). Sadly it had to close down after so many years and now replaced by this popular cafe. Such is life!
On most Saturdays and Sundays, expect to queue for tables during peak hours. The team works tirelessly and efficiently to ensure the wait isn't taking long time. Ordering is by QR code thus minimizing the ordering time.
◾Breakfast Quiche RM18 ◾Matcha Charcoal Flan - crusty and fluffy layer filled with the sweet matcha, this went well with my fruit long black. ◾Parmesan Black Pepper Cheese Ball RM5 & Caramel Flat Croissant RM7 - a balanced brunch for the picky one with one savoury and one sweet options. ◾Butter & Spice Big Breakfast RM36 consisted of Beef bacon (or turkey ham), Scramble Egg, Button Mushroom, Orange, Toasted Sourdough, Gourmet Sausage, hash brown, cherry tomato and shaved parmesan. Perfect plate for those seeking to eat like a king. ◾Tamago Mentaiko Don (RM30) + Saba Fish Kabayaki Don (RM36) - both were good and packed with Japanese flavours from the bonito & nori. However the Saba still had bones in it - the management should take notice of this because the kid didn't know much. ◾Parmesan Truffle Shroom Pizza RM42 - the aroma of truffle was evident as soon as the platter was placed on the table. Love love love the pizza base and the slightly charred crust. ◾Parmesan Truffle Carbonara with Beef Bacon RM36 was flavourful and creamy further enhanced with the aroma of truffle. ◾Coffee - my long black had this fruity taste which I loved so much; while their flat white ◾Others - iced matcha latte and refreshing creative drinks appealed to the young ones in the family.

Read moreI think this is so overrated for me, the food is just so so especially the matcha flan! The service is somehow quite bad, they did not tell us the dining duration at first but there is one waiter came to us after 1 and a half hour of our dine in and kind of chasing us out by saying “hi just fyi our dining limit is only 1 and a half hour and my customers are waiting outside!” and the tone is not that friendly! Importantly is that i see some table were dine in longer than us, and they were not being asked to leave, & i haven't even finish my pastry & drink, hello?!
& the biggest trigger part is when came to pay to bill, there is 3 additional items that we have not ordered! It was so lucky that i’ve checked my bill before i make the payment! The same waiter was giving me the doubting face that we have really not ordering the items, how can me and my friend (just 2 of us) ordered 2 main dishes, 2 pastries and 4 cup of drinks just in 1 and an half hour?! I understand that it might due to the QR code issue as it happened to me before, but what i dislike the most in this cafe is the attitude! The waiter didn’t even apologise to us!
Conclusion, please check your bill before you making the payment in this cafe!
The disrespect i feel while dining in for just 1 and a half hour is too much and i will never recommend this place to the people around me and will NEVER...
