This is the other branch from the famous Chef Chew on the same street. Basically the staff explains that they are the same restaurants, just cooked by different chef. Parking can be difficult to find, and it can be crowded during dinner hours. We first went to Chef Chew but were fully booked and had to turn to this sister shop. Luckily there was an empty table, amongst all the booked tables. Staff were friendly and efficient, the space was well ventilated and equipped with aircon. Food arrived fast. The food looks appetising and delicious. The charcoal tofu was interesting, crispy exterior with soft interior, topped with the minced pork and pumpkin sauce, it’s delightful. The Sweet & sour pork is so cool, a whole ice bucket was served, with a funnel like bowl draining the melted ice. The meat was tender, however it might disappoint fat-lover customers as they did not use pork belly. It is more of lean meat, but was very tender and nicely coated with the sauce. The vegetables had full of wokhei, however it wasn’t nicely mixed as some bites were overly salty. The smoked chicken, it was delicious as well, tender chicken, nicely marinated, not too fat, with that beautiful hint of smokiness. Overall it is a decent Chinese daichow meal, the price was reasonable to its portion. But do take note: RESERVE early! We were lucky this time round, as many that came after us left disappointed because it was fully booked! Would love to come back and try their pork lard rice and their...
Read moreVery glad that my local friends recommended this restaurant for a catch-up. Was lucky to have a table before 7 pm without a reservation. Didn't realise it's that popular.
The restaurant setting is a typical down-to-earth local Chinese restaurant without the bells and whistles but focused on making gooooood food.
Enjoyed every dish there. Tried a couple of unique dishes like steamed catfish with preserved turnips (cai boh), and a smoked farm chicken which tasted much better than it looked.
A few other dishes are worth shouting about. First was their sweet and sour pork. Mind you, not the Chinatown fare, but cooked to precision, including a finishing topped with ice cubes to hold the crispiness. Love it. A surprisingly delicious dish is their clayport plain rice tossed with generous amouny of mouth-watering pork lard bits. Had to control myself scooping out the last spoonful. Their charcoal tofu sounded harmless but was presented beautifully, sitting pretty in a golden sauce. Tasted great too!
The staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this dinner. Will be back (with...

We had the opportunity to try out this famous “chu char” place at Seksyen 19, PJ.
Signature chicken with ginger rice; the rice is infused with generous amount of grated ginger , garlic and the oiliness of the rice is on point. Pair it with a good poached chicken , juicy and tender too.
Chilled ice sweet sour pork; the sauce is great, eat it as while it is fresh to get the maximum flavour, otherwise the meat gets soggy.
Deep fried honey spare rib; we like this one as the honey coating fits nicely with ribs.
Claypot kangkung - fresh and crunchy.
Charcoal beancurd - a great dish as well, soft and tender charcoal beancurd, comfy pumpkin sauce, and a generous among of minced meat on top.
Prawn ball pomelo sauce; another of our favourite, fresh prawn inside , amazing pomelo sauce as coating .perfect with the shallots as pairing.
Lala with chef secret sauce; this is just mediocre , would prefer if the lala size is bigger 😄
Total rm500++
