I recently had the pleasure of indulging in a delightful bowl of Fish Head Noodle, and I must say, it was an exquisite culinary experience that left me craving for more. From the first spoonful to the last, every element of this dish came together harmoniously to create a symphony of flavors.
Let's begin with the star of the show: the umami soup. As soon as the bowl was placed in front of me, the aroma wafting from the broth was irresistible. It had a rich and fragrant scent, instantly making my taste buds tingle with anticipation. The first sip was pure bliss. The broth was well-balanced, with a perfect combination of savory and slightly sweet notes. The umami flavors were robust and complex, hinting at the skillful use of ingredients such as fish bones, vegetables, and aromatic herbs. Every spoonful was a delight, and I couldn't help but slurp up every last drop of the soul-warming liquid.
Now, let's move on to the deep-fried fish. The freshness of the fish was unmistakable. The moment I took my first bite, I was greeted with a satisfying crunch as my teeth sank into the crispy outer layer. The fish itself was tender and succulent, perfectly cooked to retain its natural juices. It was evident that the fish had been carefully selected and expertly fried to achieve that golden perfection. Each bite was a delightful combination of textures, with the crispiness of the fish giving way to its delicate and flavorful flesh. The deep-fried fish added a delightful contrast to the noodle dish, enhancing its overall appeal.
Finally, the mee hun, or rice vermicelli, deserves its own applause. The noodles were cooked to perfection, boasting a delightful springy texture that provided a satisfying chew with every bite. They were perfectly coated in the umami soup, allowing them to soak up all the delicious flavors and adding a wonderful depth to each mouthful. The mee hun provided a neutral base that allowed the other elements of the dish to shine while adding its own unique texture and substance.
In conclusion, the Fish Head Noodle I had the pleasure of savoring was an absolute masterpiece. The umami soup was a symphony of flavors, the deep-fried fish added a delightful crunch, and the mee hun provided the perfect canvas for the dish. It was a true gastronomic delight that left me wanting more. If you're a fan of seafood and enjoy a bowl of comforting noodles, I highly recommend treating yourself to this...

The Mee Hoon texture holds up well, offering a satisfactory base for the dish.
Unfortunately, the soup falls short of expectations, lacking any discernible fragrance. Even worse, the shop charges an extra RM1.5 for a small amount of Shaoxing wine (abt 3tbsp), which, disappointingly, fails to elevate the soup's flavor as well.
The fish, lacking the enticing fragrance of proper frying, contributes to an overall below-average taste.
🤝 Service [4/5] Friendly waiter proficient in fluent Chinese. Service is prompt, and the staff provides helpful recommendations tailored to customer preferences.
🏞️ Ambience [3.5/5] The shop maintains a comfortable temperature, suitable for those dressed in casual attire. Clean tables and floors and the provision of a plate for fish bones enhance the overall dining experience.
💲 Value [3/5] With a price per person hovering around RM20, it leans slightly towards the expensive side compared to other establishments. However, taking into account the presumably higher-cost ingredients and the convenience of a dedicated shop, the pricing remains within reasonable bounds. While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, the value proposition aligns with the overall dining...
Read moreRead online that Moon Kee is the best Fish, Fish Head or Seafood Noodles in PJ. So, this is our first visit, and perhaps the only and last visit I am afraid. 🥴
Mine came first, within 5mins of ordering. I had the regular milky Deep-fried Threadfin Bee Hoon Soup, which arrived disappointingly warm, and not piping hot the way I like my noodles soup. The small 4 pieces of deep-fried Threadfin was over-fried, and therefore overcooked, and had so many bones I spent more time being extra careful rather than enjoying my meal. 😒
My partner's arrived 10mins after mine. His was better. He had chosen the clear Poached Garoupa Bee Hoon Soup with Seaweed. It came piping hot, and I eyed his bowl with envy. 😂 At the end, he said it's just an average bowl of fish noodles soup.
Ordered deep-fried Garoupa and the fish cake as sides. Again, the Garoupa was over-fried.
Chilli sauce is the belachan-type. Quite liquid, so whatever I dipped did not catch the roughage of the chilli sauce. 😒
Service was OK. Nothing to shout about.
To us, sorry, the food we had was average at best, and doesn't deserve the...
