Chef Wong occupies a tiny stall in a small food court by the Section 17 flats (closer to the Rothmans intersection, not the Islamic University). What they lack in flash is more than compensated for by the great food, generous portions and reasonable prices.
I love their super flavourful asam laksa (round rice noodles in tangy tamarind-fish broth with mock fish strips, julienned cucumbers and pineapple, and garnished with fresh chillis and mint). This is the best version I've had in town. Another favourite is their Hainanese chicken rice. The soy chicken very closely replicates the flavour and texture of the conventional version. Their char siu (BBQ pork) is also good. The rice is cooked in a flavoured broth, certainly a cut above the plain white rice typically used at other places. I've tried the lor mee (noodles in a vinegary sauce) ordered by my friends and it's tasty, too.
Of their a la carte dishes, I've had the excellent paku belacan (ferns in spicy imitation shrimp paste) and pork in vinegar sauce, the only mediocre dish I've had here so far. All their meals come with complimentary soup, usually a light winter melon broth.
Keep in mind that they're closed Wednesdays and Thursdays. On their days of operation, they close between 3:00 - 5:00 PM. The dishes are mostly vegan so there are plenty of options here. Just check with the staff which dishes contain eggs. This place is a gem, so go...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem for vegetarian food! Sorry it's not a classy place for dining (as they are located inside a food court ala Singapore type stalls) But very economical & food tastes great. It got the traditional style food and good wok hei! They offer ala cart menu sweet sour fish, curries, vegetables stir fried etc. For individual servings, fried rice and hokkien mee noodles etc.
The downside is you have to be prepared to wait for food as there's only one chef cooking! There can be queue forming & you'd have to wait like half an hour! It's located at the end of some flats. Parking is by the roadside available.
I was charmed by the traditional surrounding & taste of food. Worth to mention too, there's the coffee, I ordered from a young couple & being served with robusta coffee with 3 long thin biscuits (childhood reminisce) costing less than RM 3! In these environment, it's special for me 😍 happy days!

Read moreThe Vegetarian Food here is Good & Delicious. Price is affordable & reasonable. Especially the Kam Heong Sauce in bottles Chef Wong make & sell is highly recommended to Buy back to eat together with Rice or Porridge or to fry with others vegetable. Though the place is small & not really cooling, but the Food over comes all. Or else like me, I'll always order take away, may it be dishes or single order of rice eg. Vegetarian Chicken Rice or noodles like Assam Laksa & etc. Bon A...
