The Chinese Hot Pot craze has swept across the country with numerous shops opening up all over. Da Long Yi is another addition to the Kota Damansara area, where it's competing with at least 4 other brands around the area as well. Having said that, it's probably one of the more popular ones as this outlet is quite large and seems to be packed during peak dining hours.
Hot pot dining, for the uninitiated, is very much like steamboat dining, where you cook the ingredients you ordered in a soup base in a pot that is boiling in front of you.
Reservations are recommended here, even though this outlet covers not one, but two separate shoplifts facing each other. Even then, it's pretty much full.
Located at one of the entrances to Sunway Nexis, you can't miss the bright red decor inside and the purple signboard. Upon entering, you are treated to decor that transports you to an olden Chinese eatery. There are seats on the ground and first floor, with private rooms as well. All tables come with a hot pot burner embedded in the table.
The menu covers an extensive range of meats, vegetables and soups that you can order to put into your hotpot as you please. Once done, the server returns quickly with a hotpot filled with the soup (or soups) of your choice. This is the basis of your hotpot dish. When your ingredients arrive, you can start to place it in the soups and wait for it to cook.
Accompanying sauces are available at a separate counter. You can mix and match your sauces to your liking, making a sauce cocktail, if you so choose.
I must give top marks for the decor and atmosphere of this place. It really is a very well designed place, always ensuring every diner gets a comfortable environment to sit and enjoy.
The food is pretty good. You can order the Mala soup in combination with the tomato soup as your base for the hotpot, which is what I do, and go wild on the ingredients. There is no wrong combination of ingredients because they are all designed to be cooked in the soup of your choice, and to make the soup richer and sweeter in taste.
Prices are above average, but you get good value for money, with the service...

I saw the top rated of hotpot restaurant in google only come and try this restaurant. The shop decorated like you entering old times China and all the table, stove and cutlery also following the theme. One thing I don't like this kind of Chinese decoration hotpot shop is their table always make it in square and solid, the leg of table all big and curve. Because of its solid seat that can't move, I can only stuck my legs there and continue eating uncomfortably. Another thing dislike is the table and floors that sauces pour or splits they didn't go and do the cleaning, even after we finish our meal (busy also need to maintain the cleanliness).
First they will first serve you with flower tea, its charged with the sauces plate together. It's just the same kind of hotpot food and price just like others hotpot shop. What the food hotpot shop need to have all got, except beef offal. Some kind of soup also don't serve (they said sold out) even its listed on the menu. The soup taste and ingredients all quite fresh and we still satisfied.
Last, we had our meal RM420. Luckily the cashier staff said if one of us enter member and we can get RM88 birthday...
Read moreGood thing about this place is, I find their food to be fresh and of somewhat good quality. We ordered sliced pork belly, pork shoulder (the best item we ordered) spinach, black fungus and handmade pork mushroom balls. For the broth, we ordered 2 flavours, spicy mala and mushroom...quite alright as well, we didn't get super thirsty later on (meaning they probably use little or no msg). The sauce station had very little choices (not sure if its always like that or just bcos of the lockdown situation - limited raw materials) they only had garlic, chilli, parsley, spring onion (all diced), sesame sauce and fermented tofu. Service was good... The waiters were always attentive and refilled the broth, cleared empty plates and basically always ready to serve. The bad thing was that they would served tea upon seating u down (without asking... Or maybe I should have asked) which we thought was complimentary but later on we had to pay for "dine in charges rm6 per person" which I felt was not good ethics as they should have asked the customer. As for costing, be ready to pay about 10-15% more than other hotpots. Go...
