This cafe was only 2-months old at the time of my visit. I have a few comments on the food and drink. As a cafe, they nailed their coffee, it's tasty and aromatic, no complaints. Double C (chicken and cranberry) was ok, came with generous serving of rain rocket (my fav veg! ). However, they could have been more generous with the amount of cranberry sauce though, it's not enough. Croissant was freshly baked, and this meant longer waiting time if you plan to order their sinful breakfast. Also, not sure if scrambled eggs and peanut butter croissant is a good combination, it's quite innovative but tasted weird to my tastebuds.
Now, I sincerely hope the cafe owner and kitchen crew will take this feedback seriously, if you are going to name your seafood pasta as " Tai Tai by the beach", please make sure this dish lives up to its name. The actual dish served was unflattery and unglamorous, and it looked so different from the one in the photo as advertised in their instagram page! The sauce was watery and the prawns and squids were small and looked pathetic. Dear kitchen crew, please look into this and improve on this dish. Otherwise, just change the name if it's just going to an ordinary and bland-looking pasta. Undeniably, it tasted quite unique but better quality of ingredients (prawn and squid) should be used.
Finally, there's a lot of good reviews about the croissants and accordingly their croissants are all baked in-house. If that's the case, I think they should have baked more flavoured croissants (cinnamon, pistachio etc.) , especially on busy Sundays. The cafe opens at 10 am and by 12pm the croissants were already sold out. I was quite disappointed as I didnt get to try their freshly baked flavoured croissants.
Overall, it's still an okay dining experience. Flakes, you certainly have much room for improvement. ...

Crossing off the list of cafe to go is this Flakes located at The Hub SS2 - OK! Technically it's not SS2 but Section 19 instead which is actually next to it, but SS2 is more recognisable right? The Hub is one popular place with cafe hoppers and food hunters, and normally swarmed this lifestyle residence hub that houses an Italian restaurant, cafes, Korean, Japanese, Chinese hotpot, etc.
Flakes is one of the few cafes in The Hub - I'd gone to each & every cafe located in this hub (more on other places in other posts). Flakes stood out due to the quality of their croissants as well as their coffee, which is a very important determining factor for me when it comes to permanent list.
◾Pistachio croissant - absolutely spot on with the flavour with generous amount of crushed pistachio that I like. Did I mention that the crust was flaky, fluffy and crispy too? ◾Tiramisu - not sure if they still have this in their menu but kudos to them, I liked it. Don't compare it to the authentic Italian style and you'll be OK. ◾Holyshot single origin coffee - what a nice way to enjoy the truest and original flavour of the selected coffee beans that they use to produce their own version of coffee. ◾Flat white - she didn't say anything beyond enjoying each & every sip of her favourite milk based espresso. ◾The young one chose one of the many mocktails from the menu and I'd forgotten which one.
Speaking of which, I have yet to go back for their brunch menu which looks delicious.
The mezzanine floor actually has more tables than the ground floor. Environment-wise this cafe was quite cosy and perfect for gathering among...
Read moreFabulously Flaky, Brilliantly Buttery and Marvellously Matcha inside-out was their Matcha croissant. Gorgeously glazed with rich, solid Matcha over those feathery light golden layers and adequately filled with a dense, creamy, velvety Matcha custard of satisfying intensity; I think I’ve found my favourite Matcha croissant that hits the right notes.
I got to admit that I was incredibly impressed by the perfect fluffiness of the moist, flavourful eggs folded with luscious lumps of mud crab meat. Garnished with red chilli, shrimp roe, nori and crispy fried shallots and sandwiched between their freshly made buttery croissant; I now understand why this umami dish is heavily Instagrammed.
Not only skilled in their viennoiseries, their seafood pasta was seriously lit too. Don’t be deceived by the dryness of the al dente spaghetti as you’ll be instantly blown away by just half a bite. Tantalised by the invisible, appetising tom yum flavours infused within every strand, the tender squid rings and piquant prawns; each bite set off a new explosion of mouthwatering tanginess and immense satisfaction.
