Malaysia is flooded with cheap japanese styled canteen food with lots of sauce and untrained chefs, at Japanese prices, in a crowded restaurant.
Thankfully, this isn't one of those.
The Hub seems to get it right and should be the direction the middle class should be heading towards.
This restaurant checks all the right boxes for what Japanese dining really is.
It is a little more polished than the majority of Japanese fast food restaurants, and at a reasonable price. RM95 for 3. The restaurant is mostly filled with families looking to spend quiet time hanging out and catching up. It is still fusion and western styled, but I'm very sure very few people in the world would even know what traditional Japanese dining really is.
Did you know that in many high end ryokans in Japan, the tempura set is usually at the top 2 most expensive and exquisite sets in the menu? It's anywhere between RM300-500 on average...for deep fried food.
I was craving for some tempura moriawase and also the good ole bara chirashi dons. They have those and they're good.
The restaurant was full on a Friday evening, but we got a full table immediately thanks to praying to the table gods, and there never seems to be a line. That's my personal experience.
Next door, seems more fusion and experimental, imitating nobu, with nobu prices, and is filled with upper class couples on dates. Expect to pay RM20+ more for each diner next door compared to Konnichiwa. It is also a lot more cramped next door, mistakenly has more energy, but you decide what is your preference.
The wait staff speak really quietly, and are kinda herbivores, but I don't mind them. Good wait staff should be invisible, and these are quite promt in my demands.
Really can't tell why their google rating is only average. Maybe it's because their tea is RM3 per person and not included in their set. Oh well, restaurants...
Read moreLast year, my review in your restaurant was great. However, I have to delete my old review to write a review again.
This time, your food standard dropped. Service crew is not at par. 1st time I want to redeem my points, which I've inform one of the crew. Even showed the crew, I've received a msg on a rm20 discount. I ordered one item to deduct from my points. During check out, I showed another crew about my discount. He keyed into the system, only to realized I can either only claim 1. So, I said then forget about the discount. He said can't and wanted to charge me for the points deducted item. It's not about the money here. It's about the information provided. It was not clear. The Chinese crew that was at the cashier kept giving me all the sighs which really frustrated me. In the end, he told me that he'll accept it all since it was their mistakes but gave me the unsatisfactory look. I really hated it. I came all the way to your restaurant from Semenyih as I think it's worth it. Now, I'm going to search for another good Japanese restaurant after I clear all my points. Very very...
Read moreUs two Muslims came in and asked if the food was halal. They said it's no-pork food. Ok, so we thought we'll just eat the seafood and so we came in and ordered seafood fried rice and another food that looks vegetarian. When we ate the food, I was so sure I ate chicken, so we called them and asked if it's chicken, and they confirmed. We said well isn't this supposed to be seafood fried rice, you didn't say there's gonna chicken in here. And he pointed to the picture saying there's pieces of chicken in the picture..........apparently we were supposed to understand the ingredients from just looking at pieces of food in the picture...I explained to him ÿou understand we are Muslims, right? We can't eat non-halal food. You said this is seafood fried rice. He had a blank face. That ruined our appetite and we stopped eating and went to a different Japanese halal restaurant at The Hub. And no apologise, nothing was offered. Very disappointed in a multicultural country, they're still insensitive towards Muslims dietary...
