Yesterday my niece , sister n I went to this hot pot place for dinner. My niece has always wanted to try out this place cos she likes hot pot n she has read many good reviews from people who have eaten there. More importantly, she likes the fact that each diner will have his or her own individual hot pot. This is more hygienic even amongst family members. Furthermore, everyone can choose their own soup base. So we arrived at this place n also found a place to park behind the shops. A few tables were already occupied. We were given the table 8- a lucky number. We browsed through the menu . It looked quite confusing cos different colored plates or dishes mean different charges. You can order their buffet or ala carte. We went ala carte cos only my niece is young - my sister n I - all seniors. Being seniors , we canât eat so much even though going buffet may look cheaper. My niece chose the meat n vegetable dishes for all of us . We ordered a flask of cold longan drink . For the soup base, I chose the prawn base , my sister chose the curry base n my niece chose the tomyam base. So we had 3 types of soup base. We had to add all the Sambal given to us individually into our own pot to boil it to its fullest flavour. We like our own soup base. We could control our own temperature in the pot as well. This is quite a good experience different from other hot pot shops. We ordered about 30 types of meat n vegetable n noodle dishes. In the end no matter how much we tried, we still couldnât finish eating all that we had ordered. What we left behind were 2 plates of Yee Mee, a dish of ramen , a minced dish of minced pork meat with an egg in the middle n a plate of thin beef slice. But we ate the free ice- cream poring. When my sister went to make payment , the staff who came to clear our table told us that they can deduct the charge for the untouched plates of food. My sister paid the bill without checking for the deduction. When we reached home, we realized that no deduction was made to the bill. We paid in full. In that case, we should have taken back all those plates of uneaten foodstuff. I Hor the management will look into this matter . How about reimbursing us the next time we come back for...
Read moreWalking into Kim Dae Wok at 18, Jalan SS 24/13, Taman Megah, I was immediately struck by the modern, bright space: neat booths, visible boiling pots, and a fun conveyorâbelt of ingredients that adds a playful twist to the usual steamboat outing. It felt casual enough for a friendly dinner, yet special enough to mark an occasion.
From the start the service was friendly and helpful â the staff explained the buffet versus Ă -la-carte options clearly, and pointed us to the sauce bar (which turned out to be a highlight). After settling in, I chose the mala soup base (for a spicy kick) and my dining companion picked the herbal chicken. The mala delivered: just the right amount of heat with fragrant chilli and numbing undertones. The herbal one, while nicely aromatic, was a little saltier than expected â something to keep in mind.
The conveyor belt is what makes Kim Dae Wok fun: plates of vegetables, tofu, fishballs, glass noodles, and more drift past your table, ready to grab and pop into your pot. The meat selection was decent â thin slices of beef, lamb, chicken â though I did notice they come frozen, which some reviewers mention. I appreciated the variety of veggies and âlighterâ items too, so if youâre more inclined toward greens and tofu than red meat, youâre covered.
One minor gripe: at peak time the service can slow down, especially when we ordered extra meat slices. They took longer than expected (5â10 minutes in some cases) to arrive. Also, while the buffet is good value, choosing Ă -la-carte means youâll want to pick your favourites carefully to get the best value.
Dessert time was delightful â the âpotongâ style ice-cream (red bean flavour in my case) is simple but satisfying. Also unlimited green tea and soft drinks come with the buffet option.
In terms of overall vibe: itâs relaxed, friendly, and great for a group or family get-together. If I were to go again, Iâd recommend visiting during lunch (better price) and definitely trying the mala base if you like a little heat. And perhaps arrive a bit early or reserve to avoid the...
Read moreThis is my second time eating here, had it once at lunch and now during dinner. Honestly for the lunch price RM56 is okay, but the dinner was RM66 which depending on you if its worth it.
You get 1 soup, I've tried the herbal and Mala. Herbal was a bit lack luster to me, surprisingly salty but the Mala was surprisingly better than expected. I enjoyed it, they allow u to add how much mala you want.
As for ingredients wise, i mainly go for protein, vege, soybean based products. The meat is all served mostly frozen, which explains the cheaper price. Its not the best but its still decent, it definitely can't beat the ones who cut "fresh" like sukishi or wagyu more or anywhere else.
Vegetables were good though. The selection is diverse so that is the nice thing.
However, servixe can be kind of slow, especially for meat. For me in both experiences it can take about 5 to 10 minutes for meat i order to come out, not sure if its prepping the rest of the ingredients or whatsoever.
Sauce section is good enough for most people, not the most extensive like HDL but good enough. Free flow of either coke or green tea only for drinks.
Dessert, red bean ice cream potong for the win.
I'll honestly only go at lunch, but its not the...
