Honestly I was there to try out their iced tea only and so far been there twice for the same. Todate and done no food tasting with their food. As such I can't bring any meaningful comments other than the coffee and tea that I had besides those basic toasted bread that do not need skills to bear with this store lot here. Was nicely welcome by a staff member as to what they are and where they're from. She offered that this YYS is a branch off shoot from the original stall in ipoh. On their menu it read ipoh hoh fun at 20 + while the waiting staff mentioned they use the real ipoh hoh fun, which cones daily from ipoh. Indeed I do know the difference between a local and the noodle that cones from ipoh, I decided not to ordered it then knowing else where in Sea park ( section 21, PJ) also offered ipoh hoh fun but at a much more reasonable price, under RM10!. As such I do not see any good reason to review them! Instead I tried their toasted bread with kaya and butter. Clearly it turned out OK. Nothing more, the butter used was the hybrid type, not the real butter while the kaya was given the sugar test before fielded in my mouth. Somehow they concluded we in KL don't like it sweet! Drink wise was slightly above average compared to those offered by kopitiam outside / nearby the mall. @ 4.50 a cuppa. The same could be issued to their tea, cold iced at 6.50 which was expensive but then accepted the fact its a mall not a kopitiam!! Since it was recently opened here inside the mall, everything were new and clean. Overall, would say most patrons will say its a very expensive joint with their food menu averaging 20+ for a plate of chicken rice.. If you think it's OK to pay 20+ for a plate of chicken rice, be my guest. Officially I do not since they can't specify what they can offer under those prices. Free range chicken, chicken from ipoh / perak or the cheaper common white chicken ? And I also do not expect their waiting staff to provide any clear and honest answers neither. Others are most welcome to be their tester and later give an honest review!! Take note besides this joint, there's another similar joint but at cheaper prices / value., just next door, hainan kopitiam,...
Read moreSecond time here. First time we had the chicken rice which was above average. The lady at the counter was also courteous and promoted their app. Our impression was rather good and we thought this is a rather okay family friendly restaurant if youre looking to have a quick local meal in a clean environment.
Today we visited again since we were in the area. Tried their prawn noodles and curry noodles. Prawn noodles was tasty, but we cant say the same for the curry noodles. It was disappointing for a restaurant deemed to be the curry man to serve up something so..inferior. The broth tasted like it was ladded with spice powder, so much so that you could basically feel the curry powder on your tongue. It was clearly loaded with spices but yet the flavours did not seem to come together, nor could you smell the fragrance of the curry. It just felt like a salty brine mixed with plenty of stale powdered spices.
We get that there are always hits and misses in all restaurants but when we gave our feedback to the young boy at the counter, we were greeted with pure nonchalance. He briefly brushed it off explaining that their curry is made different because no santan is used. My mom just politely expressed her disappointment to him that its not the lack of santan that was the issue but the fact that it felt powdery. Instead of acknowledging the feedback he just presented the card machine and told us this machine takes longer to detect so we'll need to hold the card there for longer.
We were not angry or anything. That being said, his lacklustre service attitude really was a turn off for us and really sealed our decision not to come back again. Before placing this review, i went through some of the previous reviews and found that similar negative comments on the curry was also shared some as far back as 4months. I suppose they really dont care about...
Read moreWait Time: We came at 12PM and was told it would be around 30 minutes wait, when in actual fact it was closer to an hour which I believe which may be caused by queue cutting, as I noticed there were multiple group of the same number of pax as ours (3) that came after us in the waiting list, yet given the tables earlier than us. I reckon it was around 4-5 groups of such.
Food: It's a solid 2/5 I suppose. The curry noodle was nothing special, while the steamed chicken rice was good, but it was not worth RM20. The toast was nothing special as well, we got one set of kaya butter and one egg toast.
Drinks: 3/5. Coffee was alright, the 3 layered tea was quite good.
Service: 1/5. Their foreign workers, especially the guys (the girl was quite attentive) needs to improved significantly. We were given a table where our table number was gone, so we couldn't write it. The waiter took our order chit, without writing anything and just placed it at the order counter. The lady in charge had to take the chit and asked loudly, who's order is this, which I had a suspicion would happen because the waiter just dgaf. I had to go there myself to verify the order.
When the food came, another guy was serving to us and just paused to strike out the order chit after placing the food on our table, while the cutleries were on the tray and he was ready to go. It's not very hard to see that we needed cutleries to eat our food ya? Also he did not acknowledge and gave us sambal when we requested for it. Fortunately the girl saw and gave to us.
Overall, I think there's potential but significant improvement have to be made. First would be the queing system, perhaps having a dedicated system would do well, and it's alright to tell people it's an hours wait instead of saying 30 minutes when it would probably be...
