Before you brush this place off, give it a try Guilty - I am not a fan of restobar's concept because I always associate these places with rowdy crowds, loud noises, and sub-par foods. After all, the focus is more on drinking and making it a watering hole. How wrong was I. After passing through Lavaa hundreds of time, I finally suggested to the family on this place after running out of idea on what to eat. The experience turned out to be just fine - the team was a friendly and attentive lot; but the FOOD did the talking here. ◾mushroom soup with garlic toast - the kids liked it, the adults would be OK. ◾munchies (or snacks) such as Nashville chicken poppers with lavaa sauce - addictive deep fried items in the menu with various dipping sauces (depending on what you ordered) that got my itchy hands busy. ◾margarita pizza - using thin crust pizza dough which was actually smaller than what I expected but still brought smiles to the young ones. ◾Maggi goreng with chicken and fried egg - satisfying classic mamak food with a perfectly fried egg (runny yolk) on top. ◾Salted egg and spam fried rice - salted egg & spams were two of my favourite thing in one dish. ◾Cheese baked meatballs with salted egg - love to see the gooey cheese as I scooped up the meatball. ◾ Kid's sausage and mash - another classic British dish for the kids. With 2 glasses of house wines in hand, we proceed to have a good dinner.

Woah! I usually like to read reviews when I get to a place. The last few reviews were only 1 star without clear comments and elaboration. Were they objective reviews or just utter nuisance? You can see my previous reviews and know that I try to provide objective points. Worst case? 4 stars la. My view? 5 stars obviously! I'm not saying this is the best in the world. I'm saying it is the best in what it does and because of this, nothing much to improve. If you like to just whine and complain, I'm sure you can find some ridiculous pointers. First off, beer - perfectly chilled. Service? Super fast... Maybe some jokers wanna complain too fast la 😜 To be fair, I was early before the regulars come in to pack this place FULL HOUSE. OK la, if I wanna complain... Food was good. I liked the Mutton Varuval. One of the most commented in the reviews. Chicken 65? LOVED IT. 😋 So what's my complaint? Eat too much, can't drink more la... 🤣 Seriously, one possible complaint, once this place is packed, then parking can be a bit tough la. Can't wait to come here again to try the other food. If only they can help me get here faster... Took me 45 minutes to drive here 🤦🏽

Quite good gastrobar. Nice outdoor seating overlooking the street. Casual atmosphere. Friendly staff. Prices are okay. Reasonably clean. Not that big. Plenty of parking. Menu shrunk a little. We ordered the mushroom cheese bruchetta, Nashville fried chicken poppers & mutton varuval pizza. Highlight has to be the pizza. The flavors of the tomato sauce & varuval blend well together. Good crust to boot. Chicken poppers were yummy as well. Addictive especially with a cold beer. Avoid the bruchetta as wasn't done well. Heavy bread & lacked flavor. For drinks we enjoyed the tray of tuak which had 4 different types. We also had couple of cocktails which were done well. Connor stout was decent too. Overall would return for a hangout. Hope their porky dishes return.

I had dinner with a few friends there on 13 March. Ordered myself the pork chop and my wife got herself the chicken chop. We also got the pork varuval pizza for the table.

Pros Waiters were friendly and responsive Bartender took the initiative to explain about their signature cocktails. The cocktails were really good.

Cons My pork chop took about an hour to arrive. The waiter told me that it was still frozen so that's was why it was delayed. When it arrived, it was bathed in butter and overcooked. And it had absolutely no flavour at all. Did not enjoy it at all. My wife's chicken chop was not too great either. No flavour, very bland. The pizza was greasy and had about 4-5 small chunks of pork. Not great.

In conclusion, it's not a place I'd visit again anytime soon. There's other similar restobars around which serve much better food with much...
