This vegetarian restaurant is located at Jalan 52/4 in PJ New Town. It is open from 10.00 A.M. to 9.00 P.M., with the last order placed at 8.45 P.M. It is open from 11.00 A.M. to 9.15 P.M. on weekends. The restaurant is adjacent to AmBank.
This restaurant is perfect for vegetarians and people who enjoy eating vegetables for lunch or dinner, but don't anticipate much because it is managed like a family home business, if you get what I mean. The restaurant offers the feel of a family dining room, similar to our own home. The restaurant is spotless, has air conditioning, and enough of seating for big crowds. For me, it is a restaurant, not a cafe, thus I'm not sure why the owner named his business after a cafe.
There are a variety of meal alternatives to choose from, including set meals, individual dishes, snacks, and so on. The majority of the food on the menu is Malaysian, with a few western dishes like pasta, burgers, and French fries thrown in the mix. Desserts such as Jelly, Pudding, Longan, Caramel Cake, and others are available at the restaurant. Fish curry, Sambal Petai Prawn, Abalone Mushroom, French Beans with Minced Meat, and other meals are all prepared with mock meat, which is made from Soya and Tofu and is 100 % vegetarian meat.
Soya, Ice tea, Ice Jelly, Coconut drink, Sugarcane, and other beverages are limited to 5-6 varieties. Vegetarian versions of traditional Malaysian meals such as fried noodles, fried rice, nasi lemak, curry mee, char kuey teow, and others can be found. Please note that this restaurant serves egg dishes and meals cooked with eggs, so if you are a strict vegetarian or vegan, please inform them advance when placing your order that you will be not be eating eggs.
The food portion is big and well worth the money we pay. The majority of the meals cost between RM 9.50 and RM 11.50, while individual dishes cost between RM 17.00 and RM 40.00, depending on what you order and the size of dish you choose. Individual dishes come in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. Meal preparation is swift, and the foreign staff who takes orders speaks English and a little Malay, so it's not difficult to communicate with them about what you want in your meals/dishes.
This restaurant is ideal for individuals on a budget, as you can get nice, wholesome meals for under RM 10.00, and the portions are big. This restaurant accepts a variety of payment methods, including cash, credit or debit cards, and electronic wallets. Due to limited parking lots, it may be difficult to obtain parking during peak hours such as lunch or dinner; thus, arrive earlier before peak hours to save time going about looking for a parking lot.
This vegetarian restaurant is one that I would recommend to my friends and family, but not to a 'Vegan' because it serves egg dishes and meals such as fried rices and fried noodles with egg ingredients. Also, whenever my foreign travel buddies who are on a shoestring visit Petaling Jaya, I will definitely recommend this...
Read moreWent here twice and enjoyed both experiences. My Real Café closed down for a time and reopened in a bigger space on the block or shops facing Jalan Barat. They have quite an extensive menu (many of them containing egg) but many of these can be veganised by requesting that no eggs or dairy be used.
The pan mee is a nice vegan dish with wheat noodles, sliced mushrooms, mock anchovies and yin choy (amaranth greens) in a flight, flavourful broth. It's a generous serving and makes a satisfying meal. Other tasty dishes include the koay teow in seaweed soup, wantan mee with 'mutton' curry and fried tofu skin (double check to make sure eggs and dairy aren't used) and kung po style monkey head mushroom. I also had the stir fried kai lan which was as expected.
All the portion sizes are quite generous so you get good value for your money. The space is very clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly and helpful. I noticed that they include straws with all cold drinks, even iced water/Chinese tea. Annoyingly, we got straws with our iced Chinese tea even though I requested no straws. Please strongly remind them not to provide straws! As we know, they are unnecessary and damaging to the environment and...
Read moreHad been here before. However, when I walked in and sat down, waitress passed by and did not attend to me or even looked at me. After waited for some time, still no one came and I decided to walk off without dining.
Some time later, my friend recommended this cafe to me as this is the “only” walkable cafe near where I was and I need a quick lunch nearby. So I decided to give it a chance.
Walked in today, I told the waitress “one person for dining in”, she showed me I can sit wherever is available. (OK, better service now). After filling in the order form, no one came and picked up the order. After a while, still nobody came and pick up the order. I walked to the counter, and saw waitress standing there doing nothing. I passed the order form to the waitress.
I ordered one fried rice to dine in and Basil Fried Spaghetti to go. Not sure if the cafe’s spaghetti is something different, the Basil Fried Spaghetti is actually a Basil Fried Beehon and they charged me Spaghetti’s price.
Not sure if will pay a visit again, but gotten 2 not nice experience...
