[WHITE RICE charged at RM3/bowl?!]
Today visit the restaurant with another three persons of my friends, we ordered two portions of Black Vinegar Pig's Trotter “猪脚醋” and two portions of Bak Kut Teh, a plate of vegetables , and three bowls of rice at first. The portion of all the foods very small (please take a look on the Black Vinegar Pig's Trotter and vegetable picture as attached, sorry just get to take pic of Bak Kuk Teh and Rice as we too starving), it cost RM22/portion for the Pork , what I can’t accept the most is the portion of the White Rice ,is really small until I clarify with the boss is it they give us a small bowl of rice , the reply from boss ,that is the standard size of the rice ,they don’t have big or small option, okay fine , because i still not feeling full, I order one more extra white rice share with my friend. When I go pay bill, I notice the white rice was charged RM3/bowl?! I was so shocked, And it mention (Big size), I double check with the boss again, why mention standard size but bill charged with the Big Size of rice , then he replies oh we didn’t change the system , but always the rice portion same and with same charges, I feel disappointed and reply him this is quite expensive , boss say ya no choice coz now rice very expensive . 🙄🙄🙄 I understand u can charged us with that price but please la this is only WHITE RICE and the portion was SO SMALL, if is yam rice/fried shallot rice I can understand , but this only WHITE RICE 🥺🥺🥺 this time visit really disappointed I won’t go back anymore as I don’t...
Read moreMy affair with Cheow Sang started when I moved to PJ more than 13 years ago. Back in those days, I was new to PJ and was constantly looking for new places to eat - I remember going to the outlet in Aman Suria first but the meal wasn't particularly memorable hence I stopped going.
Fast forward few years later, my whisky and wine sifu asked me out for breakfast in Cheow Sang SS2 again and that certainly left an impression on me, and then my brother-in-law raved about this bah kut teh shop in Taman Mayang that serves good braised fish head.
◾Bah kut teh - it was teo chew style hence the soup was light and lack of the herbal taste that some of you might like. ◾Braised fish head - definitely the star of the show! The sauce was lip-smackingly good and covered the fish head entirely making the sucking process such a joy. ◾Lala in garlic sauce - fresh morsels with the garlic sauce tinged with cili padi ◾Pork stomach pepper soup - not a fan of this soup but the other half loved it ◾homemade fish balls - freshly made and bouncy.. ticking all the right boxes ◾steamed lady fingers ◾Claypot pork trotters - another must order dish here. Love the sauce ◾Curry chicken bun - skip this if they ever ask you. I prefer the ones in Lucky PD or those in Kampar town.
What started as bah kut teh shop, Cheow Sang now offers a variety of dishes to the diners which to me, is a welcoming additions as I always like varieties. They have few branches - SS2 Chow Yang, Aman Suria and this one in Taman Mayang.. each operated by...

Food we ordered for lunch on the Saturday we went: Braised fish head (a signature dish) Braised pig totter Pork ribs and Pork Belly Soup Stir fried Siew Bak Choy vege (baby Bok Choy) Fried noodle
Generally, the above dishes were decent except for the stir fried Siew Bak Choy which tasted so bland with no flavor of garlic or sauce. The braised fish head came with thick delicious sauce but I didn’t fancy it (ordered by a friend). Like any other fish head dishes, there was little fish meat. Yes, the sauce was awesome but it wasn’t worth paying RM58 for the sauce and little fish meat! The fried noodle was loaded with oil, nonetheless it...
