Went for their set menu of RM1388++ for 6 pax, only a few dishes from the set were good - London duck, braised shark's fin with crab meat soup and fortune nian gao (but they were overfried with an unpleasant presentation). The rests were below average especially the steamed turbot fish that was overly steamed causing tough meat (a total waste of a good fish!). The glutinous rice with assorted waxed meat was another disappointment, waxed meat was very little for the amount of under taste and overly steamed glutinous rice. Wild king prawns were fresh but tasted ordinary albeit Oversea's signature sauce. Forget about the braised dried scallops & mushrooms with chinese cabbage, not worth trying. Chilled yuzu longan was simply too sweet.
Service needs improvement. Kitchen was just rushing to serve all dishes quickly and many dishes were not properly curated. We had to hurry in finishing the earlier dishes served worrying the limited space for the next dish to be able to put on table and didn't get to enjoy each dish at the usual pace every other eatery of the same type of restaurants' practice. Servers seemed busy, tea wasn't filled and the whole table was cluttered with old plates and bowls. Felt like a war zone and we were somehow in a war trying to gulp up everything at once!
Not an enjoyable meal on an evening of chap goh mei 2025. Hope...
Read moreWe recently had our CNY food gathering at the PJ branch of Oversea Restaurant, which has taken over the former Diaoyutai Chinese Restaurant. While they’ve retained much of the original interior design, including the numerous private rooms (with a minimum spend of RM1,500), we opted to sit in the common dining area near the artificial peach tree. However, the area felt quite warm, which was a bit uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, the service was slow, much like the previous establishment. The menu here also offers fewer choices compared to the HQ in Imbi, which was slightly disappointing. To top it off, the portions were small for the price we paid, making it feel less value-for-money.
Overall, while the ambiance was decent for a festive gathering, the slow service, limited menu, and pricey small portions made the experience less enjoyable. A revisit might require more...
Read moreThe place has a nice ambiance, but the food is very mediocre, and the overall experience was disappointing. The long waiting times and repeated mistakes by the waitstaff made it even worse. While I understand the restaurant was busy, it was frustrating that even after confirming our order a second time, they still missed items.
The worst part was when they forgot my fried rice order entirely. When I reordered the truffle scallop fried rice, they brought me the regular fried rice instead, seemingly hoping I wouldn’t notice. This level of service is unacceptable, and I wouldn’t recommend this place based on my experience.
Most of the reviews here seem to be paid or sponsored, so I wouldn’t fully trust the reviews...
