On paper, it’s a Biryani place with over 20 years of experience. The menu is expansive, covering Northern Indian staples, Malaysian favourites, and a smattering of Middle Eastern dishes.
Of course, the Biryani is the reason people come. Lamb is fluffy, mutton generous, and the rice carries a proper aroma. Chicken portions are ample, served with raita and curry, although salt levels can sometimes be a bit much. Even the vegetarian offerings—Paneer Naan, Gobi 65, and Palak Paneer—carry the bold, aromatic spices of authentic Northern Indian cuisine.
Rotis and parathas often steal the show. Tearable, soft, and substantial, they sometimes outshine the supposedly star attraction. Egg Bhurji is simple but satisfying. Butter Chicken swings between creamy bliss and overly salty disappointment, depending on the day. Malaysian dishes like Nasi Goreng Kampung are available but feel like window dressing. Drinks, especially the Teh Tarik and Bru Coffee, are reliably hot and smooth.
Value here is all over the place. Most dishes are decent for what you pay, though a few—prawn masala and mushroom-based plates—can be underwhelming. Some regulars have also felt prices have crept up without much to show for it. Still, RM2 teh tarik and combo deals are little reminders that you can treat yourself without feeling guilty.
Service can be uneven. Attentive and friendly at times, but slow and occasionally distracted, especially during peak hours or with takeaways. Communication missteps have been reported, and patience is required when ordering complex or special requests. Yet staff generally try to please.
The ambience straddles two worlds: classy enough for a quiet conversation, yet comfortable and casual enough to drop in alone or with family. The interior is an odd mix of luxury and mamak diner vibes: dim lighting, tasteful décor, and a kitchen on full display, which is nice if hygiene is your concern. Lunchtime sees local office crowds; mid-afternoon, it’s a quieter, more civilised affair. Parking exists but requires patience.
Taj Kitchen is a straightforward spot for good, hearty Indian food. It’s not flashy, not always flawless, but the food is real, hearty, and comforting. For a high-end, curated “event” meal, head down the street to Tasty Chapati. For everyday indulgence—or just a soft, flaky roti to dunk in curry—Taj Kitchen delivers consistently, serving solid, comforting food...
Read moreOne staff or waitress who behaves like she's the manager intentionally did not take my order for chicken briyani just to spite me and my colleague because we did not move from a 6 seat table to another table for 4 persons. The 2 gentlemen on our left were also sitting and waiting to be served at a 6 seater table but they were not asked to move. She was rather insistent that we move but we remained seated and did not accede to her request since the 2 gentlemen were not asked to move to another table. Why particularly us? This particular employee has done the same thing to us in the past and I believe that in order to spite us for not moving to the table of her choice, she rather vindictively did not serve us the usual pappadam appetiser served to all guests while waiting for their order to be fulfilled. She also took my colleagues order of vegetable pulao and intentionally did not take my order for chicken biryani. She later pretended to have missed out my order which is inexcusable as even my colleague heard me repeat the order for chicken biryani to her. When I asked to see the manager to make a complaint, she had the audacity to say that we could make the complaint to her! Incredibly rude and unprofessional conduct by this person and I seriously recommend that she be given a severe written warning or be terminated for her malicious behaviour. If the Manager or owner of this restaurant wants further clarification from me, please email me and I will provide my contact details. My colleague and I would be glad to give a written account of what transpired with this highly unprofessional staff and her name as informed to us by the other staff. We were seated at Table 16, Receipt No: SO00032035 dated 01 Nov...
Read moreServing mostly Northern Indian food, this pleasant restaurant is comfortable and has very good service. On my first visit, we ordered their Chicken Biryani which was quite generous and tasty. The chicken came in one whole piece and as there were 3 of us, it was quite awkward to share. We asked the waitress to cut up the chicken for us and it was done nicely and without fuss. The Mutton Masala was also well prepared as was the Aloo Gobi. The stand out for me was their Palak Paneer, it was rich and creamy and they did not stint on the cottage cheese. The least impressive dish was their Chicken 65 which lacked flavour. The choices of breads were also good. Our order of Tandoori Roti, Nan and Lachha Paratha all came hot and fresh. This meal along with 3 drinks came to RM 120.00 which I felt was reasonable as the place was comfortable and the service friendly and polite. On my 2nd visit alone, I opted for their tandoori chicken, a plain nan and a milk tea. The chicken came with a nice freshly made mint dip but no curry gravy . I was told that their tandoori set do not come with any sauce but they can offer me a dhal or a chicken curry gravy for an additional RM 1.50. This I felt was disappointing, not because of the extra charge but the gravy dip should have been built into the price of the set. It was an awkward transaction that could have been easily avoided. My bill came to RM 24.50. Overall, the place was comfortable with a pleasant ambience, the service was above average. On both visits, the food was good and well presented. It was worth paying the extra for the service, presentation and the ambience as compared to a standard corner Indian Restaurant. And I would...
