I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Barn in Starling Mall Damansara Utama, and I must say it was an exceptional dining experience. This rustic-themed restaurant not only captured my attention with its charming ambiance but also left a lasting impression with its delectable food and refreshing drinks. I dined here for a late lunch and despite being a quiet period, I had to walk in and call for assistance for quite a while. I ordered the set lunch, which came with either pepsi or iced lemon tea. I asked the waitress if there was a 0 sugar option to which she answered yes, so thats what I went with. The food and drinks came, I finished it and proceeded the pay. I noticed an additional 11 ringgit charge for the pepsi I ordered, which was odd as I ordered the set lunch. I brought this up to the cashier but they deflected stating that the set lunch only includes bottomless NORMAL pepsi but not the sugarless option. I rebutted that I was told there was an option, and that I’ve only received ONE drink instead of two, which should’ve been the case if they are charging the pepsi light separately. However, they still refused to remove it from the receipt and insisted that I pay for the “additional” drink I ordered. As I was in a rush I did not make a big scene, but I can’t help but feel that I was maliciously misled to order the extra drink, and manipulated to think that it was the ONLY drink I ordered. RM 11 might not be a large amount relative to the meal, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, and I wanted to let others know about the horrible practice this place uses just to squeeze out a single drinks...

We decided to try this place after my husband recommended it, especially since the reviews were quite positive. When we arrived, we found it quite noisy due to a large birthday celebration and families around us, which made it hard to have a conversation.

I mistakenly ordered the Satay platter instead of the Meat platter I intended to try. I asked if I could switch to the Meat platter, even though it was more expensive, but initially, they said no. I was a bit disappointed, but the waiter later came back to check again. After discussing with a supervisor, they agreed to the change, which really lifted my mood.

The meat platter turned out to be average because the meat is a bit hard. I gave my feedback to the supervisor and they served us brownies as a compensation. I must say they take customers' feedback very seriously. The service was commendable, and the live band was fantastic. Their performance added a lot to our experience. Overall, despite the initial hiccups, we had a great time, and my husband even gave the thumbs up for the restaurant’s efforts to meet our needs.
