The Humble Food Company Kelana Jaya — Restaurant in Petaling Jaya

I came in on 30.6.2023 @ 9:24 pm specifically for Raspberry & Vanilla Burnt Cheesecake (RVBC) and Lime & Mint Soda (LMS) to accompany my dinner of mashed potatoes and chicken tenders - only to be disappointed.

a. RVBC - a delight as usual; b. Mashed Potatoes - a delight as usual although I had to request for cutleries to eat them with; c. Chicken Tenders - it had a slight chemical taste perhaps due to the quality of the oil used but still edible; d. LMS - this is where the disappointment lies. At the counter, I had ordered LMS first and then mineral water (which I indicated that I required less ice since knowingly I ordered LMS as is) but I was given less ice for the first LMS (LMS #1) and a glass full of ice for the mineral water instead LMS #1 was rather sad as it lacks ice (top was cool but bottom was warm) and more importantly I can hardly taste the soda (no bubbles) I sent back LMS #1 citing my issues with it and I noticed two staff went on to taste the soda from the soda machine LMS #2 came but it was as sad as LMS #1 if not sadder as the lack of ice and no soda taste issues remained unresolved At the end of meal, I told the waiter the same thing. He mentioned that there was NOTHING wrong with the soda machine as it was functioning well. He later tried to return some money but I declined as I felt a sincere apology must be had as the experience was ruined. Moments later another staff came and apologized for the sad LMS #1 and LMS #2, citing PROBLEM with the soda machine. Really??? Please get your facts right!!! So...was the soda machine broken or not??? Knowingly there were issues with both LMS #1 and LMS #2, no staff came to ask how was LMS #2 and whether the earlier issues were resolved. Only after I refused to budge that the staff came to apologize...it felt more of a lip service than anything.

It was a truly disappointing experience tonight especially since I had not dine at KJ for quite sometime and was really looking forward to a thirst-quenching LMS as I had on previous occasions. I will not be recommending this outlet based on the quality of food...

We went at 2.30pm on Saturday, easy parking, not too crowded. Placed our order and the food came quite quickly, all together at once. Would've preferred the starter to come first, so that we can enjoy it slowly. When the main dishes are also on the table it gives us stress that they might be getting cold 😅

Anyway, we were delighted the 'Nachos with beef' tasted really good 👍🏼😋 How come 'Nachos' is not an option under your recomended dish section? 🤔 The 'Fish Tacos with pico de gallo' was delicious as well, we enjoyed it 👍🏼😋 The 'Creamy Pesto with minced beef' I liked it, but hubby found it too 'green grassy'. The serving was generous with a bit too much gravy for that 'small' order 💚 Coconut shake was so so. Coconut soda was enjoyable, wish there was more 🤍

We also decided to have coffee & dessert. Ordered a hot latte, a hot mocha latte and 1 fudgy brownie with ice cream. They brought me a cold mocha latte and replaced it after we pointed out the mistake. The lattes & fudge were also delicious 🤎

The bill came to RM106.20 and we remembered the waiter had mentioned about a free bottle of Hellman's sauce / salad dressing for customers who spend above RM100. We asked, and was then handed a big bottle, with expiry date 01/06/2024 which is two weeks away 😅 Looks like they have many bottles still but I did not see anyone else throughout our 1½ hours there who were given it 😬

It's a nice unpretentious place indeed to have a delightful meal. The service is fast and good. The main guy at the counter was especially attentive and informative 👍🏼 Thank you. We will definitely be back with our family...

Came to try this restaurant full of hope. It looked like such a pleasant neighbourhood cafe. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. And there is also a large menu with many variety. The staff also seemed rather friendly. We ordered a BBQ beef burger ala carte, and a rôtisserie chicken Set A lunch set. The cafe was moderately occupied, few tables during the lunch hour. But for some inexplicable reason, our food took an extremely long time. It was around 40mins, for our burger to arrive. And even longer for the rôtisserie chicken thigh. The burger was OK... but I dont understand why it takes so long to prepare a burger that seemed to be 2 generic ready-made frozen patties and a basic ready-made burger bun. The chicken as well was nothing special. In fact, it was also not cooked properly and on the pink/raw side. So really dissappointing. It is not a suitable place for a quick lunchbreak meal also, since they take so long to prepare the food. So sad. Anyway. I'm not giving a completely scathing 1-star review, because there were some good points, like the ambience is nice, and its a comfortable place to dine, with good people working here. But please improve on the quality and timeliness of your food. Otherwise I dont think we will come...
