Around 8pm on the 29th of March 2021, while me and a friend were ordering our dinner at Uncle Don's SS2, a middle aged man walked into the store and sat right next to our table. He chatted away with all the waiters there, and I assumed he was the manager or some sort.
As time went by, this same man decided to blast music from his phone and sing along to some of it. We tried to pay no attention to what was happening although the table was close to us and was clearly disturbing our environment.
When my food came, he asked what I had ordered and out of courtesy told him what I had order. However, over the next hour, he proceeded to ask my friend to change the music on his phone for him multiple times, insisted to the waiter to bring us ice cream for "helping him" although we politely declined multiple times.
As it was getting a bit annoying that our conversations were constantly being disrupted/constantly being stared at from the corner of our eyes, I said we should get the bill. At the same time, I wanted a new mask as mine had gotten dirty by accident. This same man told the waiter over and over again that he would pay for it.
I said no thanks once again and said that she can add it to my bill. I then proceeded to ask her for the bill. Out of nowhere, this man decided to take cash out and put it in my friend's face indicating for her to use it to pay for her meal, and when she declined he grabbed her hand tightly and insisted that she take it.
I told him to stop it and she said no, by this point she stood up and swung her hand away and walked towards the counter (mind you we were sitting right at the entrance, in front of the counter). I also got up and proceeded to pack my things. This man stood up and came to give the same folded notes to me despite me telling him no repeatedly.
Just as he was about to grab my hand, I turned away and walked towards the counter. At the counter, while my friend was paying, the waitress who saw what happened said "he's a regular customer and always gives lots of tips", only then she proceeded to say a soft "sorry".
I can merely believe that this happened in such a public place in front of ALL the staff and yet NONE of them stopped him for doing anything even when my friend was clearly distressed over the fact that this unknown man was aggressively grabbing her hand. And for your first response to be "he gives lots of tips", just really shows where your priorities are. More so, as a female yourself. Shame on you, Uncle Don's!
Update: On the 27th of April 2021, Uncle Don's shared their internal policy for harassment with me. I am pleased that they have taken extra caution to ensure this will not...
Read moreI understand this place is not a wine bar, but why add wine on the menu if they can't meet the minimum expectations? We tried to order a bottle of wine and they only had one bottle in the bar, we went with it anyway thinking "how bad could it be?" Well it was worse than you can imagine! The tin cap on the bottle would even open because the bottle is so very old and the acidity got the cap rusty?! I can't even understand how something like this could happen, they didn't have any unchilled wine glass or bottle (were not wine snobs but come on its the basic wine service, red wine is served in room temperature glasses not ice cold glasses!) When we tried the wine we literally gagged! It was more like a vinegar than a red wine, the bottle label didn't have a grape type, no date, no country of production, literally just a picture that says red wine. When we complained about that, someone who I'm guessing is the supervisor or manager came to us saying we would have to pay for that bottle either way because they opened it already, when I told him this wine is bad and undrinkable, he offered us a compromise by paying for 2 glasses they poured only. What a "convenient" compromise! I told him that I will not pay for an expired or rather spoiled bottle of Malaysian bottled wine, and that selling this wine violates the healthcode on Malaysia, he backed off and said alright then we'll take it off your bill. I mean honestly? The nachos were just ok, the cheese sauce is actually just a cream mixed with a bit of cheese, not really all cheese. The service is...
Read moreI have been to uncle don’s three times , and I have always tried the same thing - which is the beers and the nachos, and I like them very much.
I tried the pigs in the blankets once- didn’t feel it, but the nachos hits a spot for me every time .
As for the beers, love the price and love the taste. As far as I can tell that tend to have regular promotions that allows you to expect 5 mugs of Carlsberg for around 50 ringgit , and you can also expect this beer to be just perfectly chilled and served at the right time. I enjoy uncle don more than a premium beer place like Brussels partly because the beers are chilled just right in uncle don’s.
Service is up to mark - you don’t have to wait long for the your new glass when you are done with the old one , and the ambience is Goldilocks great too - it’s not too hot, not too cold and it doesn’t have use one of those irritating chairs that are have legs that are too tall and back rest that are too short. The waiters and bartenders are just goldillock great too - friendly enough that you feel welcome but not so friendly that it makes you uncomfortable .
Anyway, whenever I feel like having a talk or a discussion with someone near pj over beers, uncle don’s is amongst the the place that will run across my mind. For around 150 ringgit , I can probably have a couple of hours of good time talking with a friend over some good chilled beers and appetiser in a nice Goldilocks like ambience and...
