One of the top Char Siew in PJ area IMHO.
Price has been steadily going up throughout the years I've been eating here. Used to have soup and grounded ginger dipping, now no more. Roasted pork is also off limits to single diner, need at least 2 or more before they would serve you roasted pork.
Business has been so good, everyday there's a queue, that now the owner is taking Monday and Thursday off.
This is one of the best Charsiew and roasted chicken rice in PJ area. Definitely one of the top ten. IMO
Their Charsiew is well balanced on the "meltiness" of the fat and lean part, without the lean being too chewy. Their choice of meat is different from others being its more short grain. Best guess is they are either using pork jowl part or upper shoulders part.
Their chicken is always tender, even the breast part is tender and juicy. They have thoroughly mastered the art of "just in time" where they bring out a perfectly grilled chicken whenever the front counter ran out of grilled chicken. Also they don't just leave a piece of chicken hanging out. Unless it's after 2pm and no more queue.
However, a few downsides. The service attitude of the cashier is horrendous (you know the guy). The lady boss can be moody. Their drinks is expensive. Tho, if you follow their rules, which is don't be fussy and order quickly, have money ready in your hand or e-wallet opened, then you will get a relatively good service. As they say, the boss's arrogance follows his business success, the long...
Read moreRegarded as one of the best chicken rice in the valley, this place in Seksyen 17 is a favourite of many. Just so you don't ruin your dining experience here, I highly recommend to park in Seventeen Mall and walk over. The parking availability by the streets are very limited especially during lunch hours. Depending on the crowd, you either queue or swiftly place your order upon arrival at the serving counter. You'll be expected to take your orders to your own table so don't expect them to service you. We ordered their roasted chicken, roasted pork/ siew yoke, bbq pork/ char siew and a serving of chicken liver. The roasted chicken skin was crispy and meat was moist. They also garnished it with fried garlic for that extra kick. In short, they serve good roasted chicken but nothing truly unique here compared to some other famous stalls. The same applied to their char siew. I appreciate the thick cuts and the nicely caramelised edges with heavy glazing. I think the highlight for me was their siew yoke. The skin was crispy and the layer of fat melts in your mouth. Plus, the meat itself wasn't too dry and too chewy. Their hainanese chilli sauce helped to bring extra spicy punch but their version wasn't the zesty tangy kind so don't be surprised. In summary, the roasted meats here were commendable especially the siew yoke in terms of taste but nothing impressive if you're a regular at other...
Read moreCame to this Seksyen 17 area for some char kueh teow but disappointingly, not open. Always noticed this shop always got long queue of people queuing out.
Maybe because of my timing, just a short queue and decided to try them. Wanted to try roast pork + roast chicken but surprisingly, they don't sell them in such combination. Either one or the other, as I understood from their explanation because they sell roast pork by strips. Okay, since already here, what the heck, I am okay with more meat anyways.
So I opt for roast pork and this was how much there was for one strip and it costs RM29. Pricey for a "normal" chicken rice / roast pork lunch standards but fortunately the roast pork is quite nice. Smokey charred flavour with tender meat and crispy skin (most importantly).
I think one strip is decent for 3 people to share. Not sure why they have such practice. Cannot be that they are running out of roast pork, still got 2-3 huge slabs hanging there.
Also the queue is because regardless if you tapau or dine in, you still have to queue to order and pay before you can proceed...
