I have not been back here to eat in around 25 years and a lot has changed. Especially the long lines and the son all grown up now. I grew up in PJ state area, so I've been eating here in my younger days, when it was one of the best around. Since I was around Zainul today, thought I'd just pay a courtesy visit, and take away. The system is now lune up with at least 10+ people in line, and this is at 11.45am. Well, I choose to remain simple, taking away - rice, fried chicken, taugeh, Salted egg and mix curry which was priced at RM12.00. Free papadums. It looks like the fame has made it a little over commercial, considering the volume of people coming here. But, after 25 years, a lot has changed in the taste, which is hard to compare. Cause, back then, the raw taste was way much nicer than it is now, which is hard for many to understand. But it's still good, just not like before. The new foodies, or those who recently came here to eat, its a whole new taste.

Visit date: 2 Jan 2023 🍛 Rice + fried chicken (small) + vege + salted egg + begedil = RM11 🍛 Rice + fried chicken (small) + vege = RM7 🍛 Rice + fried fish + vege + salted egg = RM10 Price wise, it’s pretty reasonable and the chicken is pretty big to be considered “small”. Haha. However, I found there’s a lack of “oomph” to the whole thing, like there’s just something missing that binds the whole plate together 🤔 Fried chicken was rather bland, sis said the skin is yummy but I can’t say the same cos the mak cik gave me the piece that’s without skin (naked chicken) 😢 Fried fish was not bad, well fried and topped with cili padi paste. There’re only about 2-3 choices of vege (beans sprout, cabbage and okra) - we got the beans sprout and cabbage and both were so blannddddd ☹️ Even the colour is pale (as seen in my pics). Free papadom that’s self service. Overall hygiene is questionable. Haha. If you really wanna try, just have to turn a blind eye to it. Owner and workers are friendly despite the crowd.

👍🏻 1) Fast service, even though the queue line was rather long 2) Simple selection, chicken, beef, mutton, fish 3) Reasonable pricing 👎🏻 4) Selected the famous fried chicken, the meat was rather hard. I guess the cook did not do a proper defrosting prior to frying it, or may had over-fried it 5) Seating is very limited, it is guarded by territory, so can't sit freely 6) I have had better nasi kandar else where as well as in Penang, than Zainul. I have read the place serves excellent curries. It was a major let down 7) the flow of the order and payment are really messy. You order from left and pay at right. It is not conveniently located for the customers 8) many staff behind the counter but only 2-3 handling the massive long line and queue 9) finally, hygiene is really questionable. If you parked in the MBPJ car park above this stall, walking down the stairs, you will see a large pile of plates and wasted food under the stairs, really dirty and disgusting

On the table is Rice (RM2), Fried Chicken (RM8) and Salted Egg (RM2). I didn't take any vege because all they have is beansprouts and I didn't fancy them (the green smell and taste). The chicken is crispy and make sure you ask Makcik Zainul to get one straight from the fryer. If you want to get into food coma territory, ask for the fried crumbs. Can you really tell the difference between kuah campur because I honestly I can't. To experience, crispy fried chicken, visit during lunch and not past 2pm. Zainul Nasi Kandar is Muslim friendly and located at State Newtown in a food court below a multi storey car park. Parking is good, if you can find one outside otherwise, Zainul is located below a multi storey car park (hello?). Queues are imminent so don't be surprised. *NOTE* This is not a paid post; the written content is based on author's personal opinion and preference. There are 2 zainul nasi kandars here so watch out for the correct stall number 90. Arrived at 9.20am on a Friday and there was no queue. The fried chicken was absolutely delicious, crispy skin, juicy meat and best of all, still piping hot. Price was rather reasonable. Rice with vege and fried chicken at RM7 or if you opt for a whole chicken leg, it's RM10. Add on half a salted egg for additional RM2. As others have commented, the vege is rather bland in taste but I do like the curries. Hygiene is a bit sus as they just discarded the plastic sheets and not wash the plates after use. Not very friendly for takeaway too, I wasn't allowed to pick what part of the fried chicken I preferred, was just given a pre-packed set. Ventilation was very poor and it was rather warm even though I visited quite early, can't imagine how it would be during packed lunch hours. Parking is convenient in the building.

Good as always. I remembered coming here when i was studying back in 2013-2015 and the taste now is still is as good as back then. The fried chicken is tasty and crunchy, the kuah campur is a blend of spices and best to ask the server to do it for u than putting the kuah yourself. There are many servers near d shop that will help to find seats for you as long as you buy drinks from them. The only con i have is this complex is undoubtedly old but there has been no efforts by MBSJ to renovate the complex. The hygiene level is still tragic. The drainages are filled with food scraps and most makeshift sinks around the shops drains to the drainage holes which can be an eyesore and is smelly. The MOH should do checks here to ensure some standard of hygiene is practiced at this eatery because it is a good place to have a meal. Just wished it was cleaner.
