ALOHA delicatessen.bakery — Restaurant in Sarawak

I came here for the first time to try out their pastries as Google recommended. Upon entering the premise, I was pleasantly greeted with a waft of freshly baked goods and appreciated the clean and well maintained premise. I was somewhat disappointed to see that the premise offered fewer selections as far as most bakery goes but it didn't detract me from giving the place the benefit of the doubt. After a brief moment of choosing my preferred pastries; A cheese softbread, a couple of cheese scones and an apple pie, I placed them on the counter where the cashier counted everything. He didn't smile, didn't greet, heck, he didn't even bother to say, "Thank you, please come again" despite the number of customers barely reaches every digit on a single hand. Okay, sure, the customer service wasn't exactly 5 star material but what's important is the products, yes? The apple pie was alright, I can't say much since I don't have much appreciation for the stuff but it didn't really struck me as great either. The cheese softbread barely had much taste apart from being bland in taste. Couple that with the nature of pastries being dry and flacky and it becomes more of a chore to eat than anything else. The scones... well, the less I talk about them, the better I guess. All in all, it wasn't the 4 star that previous reviews have been clamoring on about. It was mentioned that the Chicken Pies are pretty good but if that's all they're good at, well, I guess one less customer won't hold it back...

I like their cheese tarts, just the right sweetness and richness in the cheese filling, albeit a tad steep for affordability in Kuching. The rest of the pastries tasted alright. I'd note that their baked goods are smaller per serving and come at higher price points.
