Magenta Restaurant — Restaurant in Sarawak

I liked the ambience of this place. The staff were absurdly welcoming and friendly. It's situated next to the river and the busy waterfront where the night comes alive.

The restaurant was originally built as a watch post for the local detention centre circa 1879. The interior has been renovated, but not extremely. Some visitors may complain it needs a redecoration. I say it's like giving plastic surgery to an aging supermodel. Sometimes the old is charming and beautiful. If you look up, the wooden beams look original. It's a nice touch missing in the modern era.

Now for the food. I only had one dish, and I'll update when I have another. I had mushroom soup. It didn't come from a can, and real mushrooms and cream were involved. Real food can never ever dip below a 8/10 for me because of the rarity of it. I liked it. It wasn't haute cuisine but it was something that a good friend would make for you on a nice evening together.

Service: 3/5 The restaurant open at 5pm, we came 5 mins earlier, we saw 4 staff sitting at the counter there chitchatting. Originally one of the staff told us can go in already but her colleague stop us and told us have to wait until 5pm.

Food: 5/5 We ordered seafood aglio-olio and chicken magenta, both are great 👍.

Location: 1/5 There was an event right in front of the restaurant on 15/9. We come out at 5.40pm and scolded by the Rela because they closed the entire place that surround the restaurant. The Rela chase us out and shout at us for stay in the event compound but there is no other place to exit. Restaurant manager should look into this issue. The event organiser shouldn’t covered the entire area and the restaurant is in the middle of the event (right behind the stage). I believe those who come late won’t be able to patronising...

I went to Magenta Restaurant on the 29th may 2022 around 9pm. The restaurant is very cosy with warm and welcoming ambience.Love the decoration and dining in this historic building is a priviledge. The food for me is a let down. I dont know what happened to the chef that night because other reviews says the food was good. For the price point, i am really dissapointed. I ordered fish & chips. I got fish with a very hard batter. Not crispy but hard.small amount of french fries and a very watery coleslaw.Even kfc coleslaw is much better than this. My mom ordered seafood oglio and she got rubbery squid that was obviously over cooked. Ended up a waste. French fries was the regular small one not the crinkle cut fries that restaurant usually served to their customer. 3 star because of the food. Other than that Magenta is a nice and cosy...
