Beautiful colonial style cafe/restaurant. Dark but airy inside, with helpful and polite staff. The flat white was perfect, with a silky mouth feel and strong without being too overbearing or bitter.
They focus on a small number of meals so they can concentrate on high quality (or at least that's my assumption). I had the turmeric-spiced battered fish and chips. The chips were simple French fries, no issues there. The homemade tartar sauce was very different to normal. I liked it, but prefer the original tartar.
The fish though...wow. A masterpiece. Amazingly plump and moist on the inside with bags of flavour. The batter was the right level of thickness and crisped to perfection. The batter tasted other-worldly. Would love to get their recipe, probably the best tasting batter I've ever had, knocks Rick Stein's out of the park!
My photos don't do the food or decor true justice. Both are top-drawer. With chilled lounge music playing (and a baby grand in place which I assume also gets used), it provides a great escape from the outdoors heat. Highly recommended, but probably not...
Read moreThe Old Court House is probably one of the more recognisable and accessed heritage building in the city. The colonial built structure has been repurposed over the years and complex now houses a few businesses- tourist information centre, restaurant, bar etc.
The complex is often used to host art events, particularly by local art collectives. Often these events features art markets that sells arts and crafts by local artisans. There are sometimes exhibitions, performances and talks happening at spaces within. Hope the courthouse management continue to host these events.
A nice place to take pictures- there are often newlyweds that uses the surrounding here as backdrop to their wedding pictures. Parking is a bit tricky but not a problem if you walk a little bit. You can always park at...

Then we saw this old colonial building and it seems so inviting! When we went into the center foyer, it was a pleasant surprise! The greenery and water feature in the middle at the central foyer provided the cooling factor that we needed and we just stayed there for an hour and two, just to enjoy the serenity and quietness in a hot Saturday afternoon.
