We were greeted with a great Japanese-themed decor made of stone, wood, and bamboo, along with a classy assortment of paper lanterns and garden islands. The restaurant still retains its casual family restaurant character as they did not hesitate to pull out the usual 'happy birthday' song for another table before swiftly returning to its usual jazz instrumentals.
Situated on the 7th floor, the restaurant also offers a scenic view of the city. There is not really much to see here, however, other than a busy highway, the noise of tyres screeching and engine revving from the showoffs, and the dirty rooftops of the neighbouring buildings. It's best to observe from the calm indoors at night as the distant traffic turns into abstract streaks of light.
Service was brilliant - they worked swiftly, were attentive, and took great care of us. The online ordering system was easy to use and the free tea refills was much appreciated. I particularly enjoyed their ice lemon tea, which tasted sweet and refreshing. Complimentary crab and gloves were also provided to the table.
The food was hit or miss. It started off well, with their delicious Kawahagi Mirin Boshi and Chuka Idako appetizers. However, the chef's selections for sushi were of low quality. The fish was cut very thin and easily fell off the rice. The rice broke apart too easily and tasted far too plain for sushi. Funnily enough, if you instead order individual nigiri pieces, you will often get much better quality sushi with larger quantities of fish. The Shiro Maguro and Unagi nigiri were by far the best dishes on the menu, with the Shake and Maguro nigiri being good second options.
Their sashimi, on the other hand, were not great. The slices given were absolutely tiny. The Maguro sashimi, which was advertised as raw, was instead served lightly seared. This would not have been a problem had it not also been disappointingly dry. The cooked items were also of mixed quality. The Ika Batayaki was too sharp/garlicky. Their baked oysters with special sauce was a favourite for our table, while the Hotate Mentaiyaki tasted like a downgraded version of that.
Overall, a rather inconsistent experience. For about 113 rm per person for the buffet, I would have expected better for food. However, the service provided definitely...

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Maguro Japanese Buffet for the first time with my family. We were so impressed that I couldn’t wait to bring my best friend along for another visit. On that occasion, we ordered more than 20 plates! The experience was nothing short of amazing.
The ambience at Maguro is warm, inviting, and perfectly complements their incredible food. Every dish we tried was delicious, but my absolute favorites were the hotate chawan mushi, kawahagi mirin boshi (grilled jacket fish) and ika sashimi (fresh squid sashimi). The kawahagi mirin boshi was a standout with its slightly sweet, smoky flavor and perfectly grilled texture, while the ika sashimi was wonderfully fresh with a smooth, delicate taste. Hotate chawan mushi is like my comfort food 😆
We loved it so much that we went back again just yesterday. This time, we couldn’t resist ordering four plates each of the kawahagi mirin boshi and squid sashimi. Once again, the dishes were absolutely delightful—words simply cannot do them justice.
Maguro Japanese Buffet has quickly become one of my favorite dining spots. The food, the service, and the overall experience are simply outstanding. Not to mention their customer service, the best! Very friendly and helpful. RM113 memang worth it! I can’t wait to go back again, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves authentic...
