Through the reviews I read, the restaurant seems to have pleased many diners with their offerings. And so, while I was on the Bukit Jelutong area, I decided to drop in and sample their food.
Lots of parking just outside the restaurant, the front facade of the restaurant is very open and inviting. Glass walls gives a very welcoming look into the restaurant itself.
The decor of the place is very warm and chic without overdoing it. I liked the warmth of the liberal use of wood and the very clean look. The spacing between tables is also very generous, without making the floor seem loose. Service here is very good, as the servers are attentive and will help you guide you through the menu should you be undecided.
The starter I ordered was a Unagi Nigiri sushi, which arrived promptly. The unagi (eel) was very nice, though I must say, it was a bit thin. My mains came quite fast, in about 10 minutes after ordering. The Teriyaki Chicken Don that I had was well cooked, the rice was super fluffy and the grated cabbage salad with roasted sesame dressing gave the meal a balance. Also included was a bowl of miso soup and some pickles.
To finish off my meal, the staff recommended a New York cheesecake. While the cheesecake was nice, it was obvious that the cake had been in the cooler for a bit longer than necessary as it was too flaky and crumbly, which is a sign that it's dry.
I also took away a Chicken Katsu Curry rice which also had a miso soup included. My daughter commented that the chicken and the miso soup was good, but the curry lacked flavour and was bland.
All in all, I would still give this place another visit soon to try out their other items in...
Read moreIt was our first time here last night. We live nearby and were excited to know about a Japanese halal restaurant just opened in our community. I asked one of the girls who owns this place and she pointed to a man standing smiling at us. We had a good conversation with the owner who lives in BJ as well.. about his long experience in the food industry, and how he got into this Japanese cuisine ( this is his second outlet, the first in Mitsui four years now! )
We enjoyed the food. I am just into Japanese food, apart from tempura n sushi ( they will have this soon? ) cant remember the names.. owner suggested the soft crab which was really good. N another one .. comes in balls which he describe as cok kodok jepun.. this one really good. Owner pls tell us the name of the dish again.
Prices reasonable, ambience simple and clean .. to the Japanese spirit with soft Japanese music in the background. I dont really eat rice these days and i find the rice serving too much for me, but owner said you could request for just tempura or small bowl of rice.. they can cater to your personal requests.
The place is not very big and during weekends it gets busy, owner suggests you make reservations.
Another place in BJ where I can bring family and friends. Seronok duduk...
Read moreVery homey vibes and excellent food, perfect for families.
The Shoyu Beef was excellent and spicy chicken ramen great too although could be a bit more spicier but maybe that's just me since i like everything spicy.
I ordered also a plate of sushi, presentation was marvelous and it matches the wonderful taste, definitely ended up ordering more and more. They are generous on soy sauce as there's a dispenser and wasabi tastes very smooth too, you can taste that it's good quality. Great for sushi lovers.
Drinks are even nicer, you can request for Boba to be added to your choice of drinks which I requested to be added to my iced matcha green tea and it tastes amazing not forgetting how generous they are with their homemade Boba too, superb!
It's very busy so you'd have to book before going as it's always full but it's definitely worth it and spacious too, great for bringing families.
Overall I had a great time at Nikusutei and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Will be...
