Bright, Breezy and Brewed Just Right – with Room for a Little More Toast
It’s been a while, but I recently found myself back at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Bukit Jelutong. The outlet has had a facelift, and I must say – the refurbished look is a treat. Brighter lighting, tasteful decor, and a generally more inviting vibe make it a lovely spot to enjoy a quiet meal or nurse a coffee over emails.
Breakfast was a mixed bag, though. The soft-boiled eggs were... microwaved. For RM23, one does hope for something a little more lovingly coddled – perhaps gently simmered, rather than nuked. The jam could also use a bit of an upgrade (your toast deserves better), but points for the thoughtful plating.
The coffee, however, was quite good. Smooth, well-balanced – though I must admit, I’m not entirely sure what beans they’re using. Whatever it is, it works. It perks, it pleases.
Now, a curious bit: food and drinks are served at different counters. So yes, breakfast in one queue and your flat white in another. It’s a small oddity, but no major drama – especially since there’s no added service fee, just the standard 6% SST.
Power socket hunters may be slightly disappointed – not all seats are equipped – but that’s a minor hiccup in an otherwise cosy setup. The place is clean, smells lovely, and carries that relaxed, mellow atmosphere we all look for in a neighbourhood café.
As for parking, Bukit Jelutong’s got it mostly sorted. It's fairly easy for families, though the spots right in front can be a tight squeeze during peak hours.
All in all, a pleasant place with good coffee and plenty of charm – just don’t expect your eggs to be the star...
Read moreI came here in the morning for a meeting with a client and decided to order something from the breakfast menu. Although I have visited this restaurant (in diff locations) many times before, this was actually my very first time trying their breakfast selection. To my surprise, the food turned out to be extremely delicious. I honestly did not expect it to be this good. Previously I have only tried their pizza, which I would say was decent, but nothing too extraordinary. However, the breakfast really changed my perspective about this place. The flavors were rich, the portion was just right, and everything was served fresh and warm, which made the whole experience even better. I left feeling satisfied and impressed. From now on, I know that this will be one of my favorite spots to come in the morning, especially when I am looking for a tasty breakfast before starting the day. I am already looking forward to...
Read morerecently tried the Margarita Pizza and Gingerbread here, and my experience was a mix of hits and misses.
🍕 Margarita Pizza: A delightful surprise! The crust was thin and crispy, with a nice balance of tangy tomato sauce and gooey cheese. The fresh basil added a lovely aroma and taste. Perfect for a light meal with a good cup of coffee.
🍪 Gingerbread: Unfortunately, this didn’t hit the mark. The flavor was mild, lacking the signature warm spices that make gingerbread so comforting and festive. It could use a stronger kick of ginger and cinnamon to stand out.
The cozy atmosphere and friendly service are still strong points, making it a nice spot to relax. I'd recommend the pizza but would skip the...
