The first outlet was opened in 2016 on the first floor of a corner shoplot in residential neighbourhood of Section 17 PJ. Although the decor is kind of upscale, don't be surprised to see locals coming in with shorts, slippers and T-shirts.. it is a popular Japanese eatery in this area, so popular that weekend dinner without reservation is almost impossible - in fact, I wrote this post immediately after coming back from dinner at Uroko Saujana Nova after I failed to get a reservation at their PJ outlet on Friday evening.
Quick fact - Uroko means "scales" in Japanese and I'm pretty sure that those who have gone there should have noticed the distinctive patterns dominating the entire outlet there. The whole outlet is dimly lit but the aura of calmness is still there from my first visit. ◾Start the meal with salmon ball salad - nothing beats a bowl of fresh salad to whet the appetite where they use raw salmon slices to wrap around the fresh salad like a ball, with ponzu-like sauce as dressing; ◾grilled salmon head ◾Kaisen kami nabe or seafood paper hot pot provided the much needed comforting to the tummy. ◾sea urchin (uni) - once in a while splurge on this delicacy and it never disappoint with its creaminess and freshness ◾ One of my favourite will be Hanabi Sushi where the chef combined pan fried tuna with foie gras on top (6 pcs in total) - I actually couldn't figure out how both ingredients complement each other so I ended up eating separately.. lol ◾ Unagi panko roll - deep fried tuna maki with eel and avocado mayo.. I quite like this ◾Saba shioyaki - essentially grilled mackarel with salt, this fish is one of my commonly order dish and I love how they managed to get the doneness and texture of the fish right everytime. ◾Sashimi, sushi and yakitori are quite prominent here - try their grilled chicken gizzard, soft bones and even chicken wings. ◾Yaki tamago - the little one's favourite and even I thought that this is one of the best I'd eaten so far. ◾shake don - generously portioned salmon sashimi and salmon roe on top of sushi rice. ◾Various bento sets are available as set lunch and dinner if you can't make up your mind on what to eat. We had the salmon teriyaki set that comes with sashimi which was worth the price paid. ◾Their yuzu ice cream is to die for.. I ordered this almost everytime I was here.
If you love your sake, their sake list is quite extensive and sometimes they do promotion on certain products. I once opened a 1.8 litre sake which could be parked for few months in case I couldn't finish it. Or you can just order their house...
Read moreThe first time I went to Uroko Nova Saujana was after my Google search for Japanese restaurants offering vegetarian menu. I had a pleasant lunch, opting for bento-box vegetarian set.
Most recently, I felt like trying Yakitori, which is only served for dinner at this restaurant. I opted for Okura and Naga Negi, which being ladies finger and leek. Of course, the temptation in their menu means that I also had option to start with Oshinko Maki being pickled radish and proceed with and Agedashi Tofu, a deep fried tofu in potato starch that is mildly soaked in soy sauce. This is one simple dish I do enjoy very much, as it opens up your appetite. My main course was their hot Chasoba Noodle which is green-tea buckwheat noodle.
I also opted for their house sake, Saito Karakuchi. It is a refreshing light body dry sake, served hot and went well with my food choice.
I wanted to complete my visit with a small bowl of garlic fried rice. It may sound basic, but I had one of the best fried rice for a very long time, that made dinner outing a wonderful day.
Now, do not make the mistake of driving to Uroko without making online reservations. They do have a hotline number to call as well. As for me, I took the option to drive to this restaurant and ask for a single seating, if available. The Service Team was kind enough to lead me to their bar seating for me to enjoy my dinner. Service was very attentive, empty plates removed immediately and I also had a full view of Service Team and Chefs being prompt, efficient and dedicated.
If you plan out your meals like I do, the timely serving comes one after another, for you to set the pace and enjoy the experience of good Japanese meals that is favorable for vegetarians. They also have a superb selection of non-vegetarian meals to which, both segments can enjoy a good lunch or dinner outing together. Food price is comparatively reasonable.
Driving to Nova Saujana, where Uroko is located, can be mildly congested during peak hours, so set on your Google Map and find your shortest possible route to reach there in time. Parking rates are reasonable and normally you can find a...
Read moreWell, firstly this restaurant has been one of my family’s most regular visited places for any occasion especially birthday’s. And secondly, reason being the environment and the atmosphere itself is very cosy, quiet & comfortable. From my family’s many visits of this restaurant, we are always very well satisfied and pleased. Not too mentioned that their service is pretty excellent as well. Based on my first two points above, I would highly recommend & advise any one of whom I know to pay this place a visit. But thirdly, as a person who loves food & having been a big fan of Japanese food close to 10 years now and not to mentioned that I’ve actually experienced authentic Japanese food back in Japan before, the food here comes close but still pretty far away. The prices are a bit on the higher end in comparison to other Japanese restaurants in the Klang Valley or Subang area. But is it worth the price? For the environment, anytime! For the food? From my advice, it’s good enough if you plan to give it a try and pls do. But definitely not the best I’ve tried, as premium they tried to make themselves to be. At...
