The Barn Citta Mall — Restaurant in Petaling Jaya

I take pride in my reviews as I love food so after my second time here , this are my thoughts. On the plus side, I love the menu. Unique starters ( we had pork meatballs) and it tasted good. Simple main course menu as well with some Western and local fare. Was nice to see a classic like luncheon meat fried rice on the menu. Ordered a charcoal pork burger which was excellent and my partner ordered lamb cutlets. Now here is where the star rating dropped...lamb is notoriously hard to cook and it's quite well known that it's difficult to source good lamb cuts in Malaysia. However the amount of fat...per cutlet ( which is small ) was not acceptable. Perhaps try to source from suppliers who can guarantee min fat content? We get this overseas but don't know if Malaysia has it. And it will make for a much improved experience overall.

The service is one of the best I've seen. I always test service on a popular weeknight . We dined on a Thursday where there was some beer promo going on so the place was rowdy. But service was top notch. We sat at a corner and were well looked after. I always complain Malaysian food places have poorly trained waitresses but not here. Very Western style where the waitress makes an effort to get your wishes. Even swapped my salad for more fries .. awesome.

Overall good. Maybe slightly better meat cuts would be better. Can't comment on the wine as am not an alcoholic beverage consumer but people were happily clinking . Nice ambience just not on Thursday or Friday coz the sound insulation is not too good and with a full house and live band maybe a bit too much. Keep up the good work . Will...

Actually it’s the worse Bar’N outlet I’ve ever been to. I had the set of Guinness Stout of 3 Pints for RM68.00 with a friend of mine. In the initial stage of drinking the stout, we realized it was not right and tasted horrible which we complained to the manager. He then replaced with new pints of stout for both myself and my friend. It didn’t differ at all in terms on the taste. Nothing was done by the management. I made the complaint because I had the same type of Guinness Stout Pint sets in Sunway Pyramid’s Bar’N outlet and it was so tasty. But the outlet in Citta Mall, is such a horrible experience and would never head there ever again. Another matter was with regards to the Set Package Card that was offered to me by the waiter in Sunway Pyramid Bar’N outlet. It stated that every 6 sets of the similar Guinness Stout would be entitled for a free set of the drink. I had 2 stamps already from Sunway Pyramid outlet. But earlier when I was done drinking in the Citta Mall outlet, when I was about to redeem another stamp, I was told that I cannot redeem any stamp as its not valid to get stamps from different outlets in the same card. It was so absurd for them to say such a thing as both the outlets belong to Bar’N. I don’t see the logic for them to not allow me to get the stamps in the same card. It was so horrible that I had to tear the Package Card and threw it...

Yesterday’s lunch was our second time eating at The Barn. It has a good ambience and the staff are friendly- the drinks are strong and they taste good.

The prices, however are nowhere near what they should be for the quality of food served. I had a ribeye for RM80 and 1/4 of it was gristle. The mashed potatoes and roast vegetables were cold- as well as the steak being far from tender and not cooked to my liking either (ordered medium but the middle was rare).

My partner got the carbonara which tasted ok, but it wasn’t hot and had a raw egg yolk in the middle which we assumed would be good quality because of the prices and thought nothing of it. -we are assuming this is what my partner got food poisoning THIS TIME.

What a mistake.

For a total of RM185 we were served 2 cocktails, a chewy undercooked steak with cold vegetables and a lukewarm carbonara.

This is also not the first time to get food poisoning from this place- back in February we came here for dinner and ordered pizza and a few other things. The food was mediocre and I ended up getting horrible food poisoning for the next few days... but didn’t think to blame the restaraunt as it was a one-time thing and I am a foreigner.

After the second time, happening not to me but to my partner, I would STRONGLY recommend thinking twice before going to The Barn at Citta Mall...
