A nice cozy café for food and beverages located next to Subang Aeon.
The chef's passion in cooking can be tasted in each of the dishes that is being served.
We ordered Aloha Chicken, deep fried Squid with benjy's special sambal, sweet potato fries, marinara shrimps pasta, beef bacon carbonara, fish & chips, chicken & shrimps.
Aloha Chicken (RM26) and Chicken & Shrimps (RM26) - chicken is succulent, and the piece of pineapple accompanying the chicken hits the spot. The bread is well toasted
Deep Fried Squid with Benjy's Sambal (RM28) - the Squid is well fried - crisp on the outside and moist inside. The star of the show is really the sambal! Spiciness is just right and well balanced in taste and aroma.
Sweet Potato Fries (RM15) - well fried sweet potatoes
Mac & Cheese with Bacon Bits (RM15) - we do not usually order pasta carbonara, but somewhat we tried. Glad we ordered. Taste, aroma, and sauce consistency are just done to perfection. We even repeated the order.
Fish & Fries (RM16) - the fish fillet, though it's dory, it's done with finesse, so much so the dory aftertaste is not present. The fries are way better than McD.
Marinara Shrimps (RM30) - Amongst all the orders mentioned above, this is lackluster. Somewhat something is missing or not balanced. The marinara sauce is a bit on the sweetish side. The "tang" is there but just too "blunt." However, we opined that it could be because of all the above orders. If this Marinara pasta is eaten or ordered on its own, it can still hold its forte.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and environment. The latte is good, but the ice lemon tea is lacking in lemon, and the tea used is not...
Read moreFood : 5 star. We ordered the signature lamb shank and the fish & chips. Both were scrumptious. The lamb was extremely tender and the thick gravy subtly covered up the meat smell. The menu did not offer too many choices for the mains, but all dishes seemed delicate and delectable.
Portion : 5 star. Very generous compared with other similar western restaurants. The mains also came with substantial side dishes including salads and mashed potatoes.
Ambience : 4 star. The front part of the restaurant was rather congested, dark and not so well ventilated, but there was a much bigger and spacious room situated at the back with bright lighting. The customers also had a choice of sitting outdoor. The whole place gave great aesthetic pleasure and cosy feel, with substantial decorations and adornments.
Service : 5 star. The warm food was duly served within 20 min from time of order. The waiters were pretty occupied but never failed to attend to our requests.
Price : 5 star. Most of the set food items, in particular the chicken, were priced reasonably. Moreover, the restaurant did not charge any additional service charge and tax, i.e. nett prices were displayed honestly on the menu. Thumbs up.
Location : 5 star. The restaurant was located on the ground floor of an apartment. Serene environment away from business district. Free parking within the compound of the apartment was allocated and provided for customers. Public transport (KTM) was within the vicinity...
Read moreTried out Benjy Cafe on a recommendation. The cafe is located at the podium of some apartments. The shop has 2 different dining sections - al fresco at the front and side and air-conned section at the back. The waiter directed me to the back air-conned section which was good in this current hot, hot season. Going in to the dining area (around 6.00pm+), I felt it was a bit dimly lit. They turned on more lightscat 7.00pm. The decor in the air-con section was plain and rustic. I tried their onion soup for starters and striploin steak for my main. I enjoyed the onion soup, it was flavourful, filled with lots of onion bits, and it was served steaming hot, together with a slice of garlic toast. When I was ordering my steak, the waiter did warn me that it could be hard. I ordered the steak any way because it was on offer that day and I take my steak medium rare. The steak came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potato was nice. Taste-wise, the steak was decent and bigger than normal in size. However, it was cooked medium-welldone instead of medium-rare, and there were a fair bit of hard tendony parts which detracted from the dining experience. Not sure whether there will be a 2nd visit to...
