A DINER WITH POSH AYAM GUNTING
Fowlboys SS15 has been getting quite a bit of attention lately, but after trying it out, I honestly think it’s a little overrated. It didn’t exactly fall flat, but it barely met the most basic expectations. While the place does look the part - with its polished interior and clear nods to an American diner - it somehow feels emotionally distant. The setting is nice, clean, and visually appealing, but there’s a coldness to the atmosphere. For a place styled like a lively, communal diner, it felt more individualistic than inviting. What made it slightly amusing was watching how some patrons behaved, as if eating fried chicken here was some kind of luxury experience.
I ordered a three-piece fried chicken combo and went with the extra hot option. Presentation-wise, the meal looked good. The portion was fair, and at first glance, it had that crispy, golden charm. But taste-wise, it didn’t really deliver. The seasoning was heavy in a powdery way, almost like the kind you get with pasar malam Ayam Gunting. It lacked depth and balance. It doesn’t come close to Korean fried chicken, and definitely not to the Taiwanese kind. At best, it was just a bit better than KFC. The chicken was also a bit oily at times, which didn’t help. On the plus side, the chips were enjoyable, and the milkshake was surprisingly good - probably the only item that stood out for the right reasons.
Service was actually one of the better parts of the visit. The staff was attentive and friendly, checking in on us regularly. One staff member in particular made a great impression with her warm and thoughtful approach.
As for the price, it didn’t quite match the quality. It’s not outrageous, but for what you’re getting in terms of taste, it doesn’t feel worth it. You’re mostly paying for the look, the vibe, and maybe the hype.
Would I go back? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Only to those who care more about where they’re eating than what they’re eating. Fowlboys SS15 might appeal to rich kids and trend-chasers, but if you’re after genuinely great fried chicken, you’re better off...

This is not a paid review
I visited Fowlboys today with my two kids, just expecting to have lunch. What I didn’t expect was to walk away reminded of what real hospitality feels like — and why it’s becoming such a rare and valuable experience these days.
Yes, the food was solid — that Nashville-style fried chicken delivered on flavor and heat. But to be honest, it was the vibe and service that made the meal unforgettable.
The team went above and beyond in the small, thoughtful ways that most places overlook. My kids were given coloring papers to keep them entertained — without me asking.
Tissues were offered while I ate, something so simple yet so rarely done nowadays. The greetings were warm, not rehearsed. The smiles felt real, not forced.
And I want to specifically shout out Danial (in the picture), who has only been with the team for 6 months, and Adi, who has been holding it down for 4 years.
Both of them made me feel like I was walking into a place that knew what it stood for — not just to serve good food, but to create a real, human connection with their customers. ---(Kudos to Fowl Boys for hiring human!)
I told them straight — there’s a big-name competitor just down the road. They're bigger. Slicker. Well-known. But honestly?
It felt cold and commercial compared to this. That other place might win on scale, but Fowlboys wins on soul. (I actually feel their competitor's chicken is good, and I wouldn't lie. I am a regular there for sure)
You can’t fake that kind of warmth. You can’t buy it. And you definitely can’t automate it.
In a world where most F&B brands are becoming robotic, transactional, and obsessed with just selling more — this place reminded me that people still crave sincerity, even more than spice.
If you’re coming for a good meal, you’ll get it here.
But if you’re coming for something more — for the feeling of being welcomed, seen, and respected — this is your place.
Thank you, Fowlboys. You didn’t just serve food today — you served humanity.
Keep going. We need...

FOWLBOYS SS15
Finally, we made it to the OG of the "gourmet" chicken joint. We were excited for the chicken, plus we didn't get around to eat anything before so this was our 1st meal of day, for dinner.
Cut straight to the spread - 2 pieces chicken (mild and original), the OG chicken burger, comes with fries and we opt for the milkshake. Stay tuned for our review on the milkshake, later.
Fried chicken - it was ok, not a fan of the batter, we are fine with the texture but taste wise, nothing screams out. We are definitely not a fan of the taste of the chicken meat itself, I think Fowlboys brine their chickens before frying - this rendered down the real chicken taste and also, the tenderness.
Chicken burger - same thing with the batter and the meat taste. They use sweet bun, so the whole burger is just sweet for me, and I had my spice level at hot. It's safe burger but for the price, it wasn't worth it for me.
Fries - i enjoy the fries very much, crunchy and long. It has that fresh KFC fries texture, which is love. We also got the Ranch and Garlic parmesan sauce, we did enjoy the dips.
Milkshake - now, this would be the sole reason why I will come back to Fowlboys, over and over again. We went for the Malt Peanut Butter Milkshake - this is the king. This has to be the best peanut butter milkshake in town. I love my milkshake and when you offer me malt or soda milkshake, I'll be very critical. DO NOT SKIP THIS MILKSHAKE, ALSO, DO NOT SHARE IT.
Originally, we placed Fowlboys at the top of the chicken joint list to try, but now, we will let it float for a bit as we try other joints.
Overall, it wasn't to our expectation. Don't get me wrong, we are just being critical over the theme here, the place is clean, it has that awesome vibe and the sitting setup is top notch. I love the damn merch Tee shirt too! It just a personal preference.
Taste - 6/10 Milkshake - 11/10 Ambiance - 8/10 Price - $$$
