We're no strangers to this restaurant, and have actually quite loved its food and ambience for the most part.
However, there has been one bad experience, whereby (unknown) bugs and their maggots were found in my and my friend's dishes (we ordered the same thing). Yes, it would've been nice to not have bugs, but it wasn't so much the bugs that were disappointing, but the way things were handled after that.
The manager/owner was quick to notice that something was wrong with our table (maybe because we were scrutinising our dishes), and came over immediately, asking what was wrong.
We told and showed them what we saw, and our dishes were taken to the back, maybe for cross-checking/verifying that the main pot of food is contaminated/clean?
But then for the longest time, we just had 1/2 of our dish gone, and no idea what was going on. It was a long while until another staff came by to ask if we wanted to replace the dish with something else, but by that point we were already finishing, and honestly, not really keen on eating more of the dishes that day after the contaminated one.
In the end, we stuck to our 1/2 dish, it took a long time before we were attended to again and offered an alternative, and when we turned it down, we weren't given a courtesy discount either. We still paid the full price for something that wasn't our fault.
I feel that the team isn't very well-versed in handling such situations and understanding the customer POV, and that was the most disappointing part of all. It will be a while until we frequent JDV again, and hopefully when we do, the experience...
Read moreNice environment and atmosphere especially if you just want to chill and get a bit of work done. Coffee and service was good, no doubt about that.
But the real disappointment was the food. I ordered the croque-monsieur which is basically French version of ham and cheese sandwich which is rich in butter and crunchy. Now obviously I don’t expect it to be authentic or exactly like the French version because it uses bechamel sauce, but the least you can do is toast the bread with lots of butter to give it that richness and golden brown look.
But what really ticked me off is that you guys had the audacity to explain what a croque-monsieur by mentioning croque (crunchy) and monsieur (mister) but the end result was nowhere near to what you describe. Zero effort was made to even make it close to what a croque-monsieur is. All you did was take plain white bread, threw ham and melted cheese on it and the end result was stale soggy sandwich.
If you’re going to use your menu to explain the food and then put no effort or care whatsoever into cooking or making it then highly suggest you take it off the menu. Such a disgrace because food is beautiful thing and it’s meant to give a person a taste of what certain cuisine or culture is like. You however have absolutely failed...
Read moreJDV is short for joie de vivre which in our local context is "enjoy kaw kaw" feeling - okay, I made that up, it's French for "exuberant enjoyment of life". Well, I didn't get as high as that but if you're looking for decent coffee or tea and cakes (a bit pricey between RM16 to RM18 a slice), then can consider. I've read good reviews about their fish and chips - that, I must try next time. For today, we had a light afternoon tea set which came with 2+1+2 choices of mini cakes or pastries available arranged in a 3-tier transparent glass plate; which we found of decent value at about RM18/pax inclusive of coffee or tea. The chicken with mushroom pie was my personal highlight. My only beef was the 40min odd wait for the 3-tier concoction to be put together which I observed involved about 150m of back and forth by their staff between the front counter and the kitchen - great exercise for them and even greater exercise for my patience... qué sera...
