Review for Peppercorn Cafe SS15:
On my first visit to Peppercorn Cafe SS15, the experience turned out to be less satisfying than expected.
Starting with the set menu, the appetizer was a salad with a disappointingly small piece of fried fish, the size of a 20-cent coin. The flavor was acceptable and the salad was somewhat appetizing. The main course of grilled chicken, accompanied by mashed potatoes and stir-fried cabbage, was just average. The choice of vegetable seemed unusual, but the cabbage was well-prepared with a generous amount of garlic. However, the chicken and mashed potatoes were not standout dishes. I firmly believe I could cook a better version. The set menu also included a tiny dessertโa pancake the size of an army tag. It was a forgettable one-bite affair. The accompanying seafood chowder was also a letdown due to its overpowering briny taste.
The ala carte side of the meal was equally disappointing. I had high hopes for the mushroom soup, as it was recommended in some reviews. Unfortunately, the excessive saltiness masked the earthy mushroom flavor to such an extent that I had to add a lot of pepper to balance the taste. It didn't satisfy my craving at all.
The Carbonara, however, was the highlight of the meal. With its distinctive flavor, it was well-cooked and enjoyable, particularly with the addition of some chili flakes. It wasn't the perfect Italian-style carbonara, lacking some herbs, but it still deserves a solid 4 out of 5.
The ambiance of Peppercorn Cafe SS15 was comforting, reminiscent of an American diner in the outskirts of a U.S. townโnostalgic and welcoming. Service was acceptable, although parking proved to be a challenge. The only feasible option seemed to be the paid parking bay a few steps away.
A significant aspect of the experience at Peppercorn Cafe SS15 was the homely feel of the dishes. They brought back pleasant memories of mom-cooked mealsโnot the best, but certainly comforting. Despite this positive note, I believe there are far better options out there that merit a visit over a second trip to...
ย ย ย Read moreThey should have done better in customer experience & managing customer when customer 1st enter into their premises. They SHOULD BE more focus on that since they are in F&B industry even if they don't want to.
My family and I had experience that when 1st enter into their door to dine in with family, the lady in blue t-shirt (shld be 1 of the owner) RAISE HER VOICE to us from where she was sitting (as per pic) to ask us sign in the register book due to Covid-19 which make us felt embarrassment to other diners inside the premises as if we have done something wrong since it was OUR 1ST TIME to try out their restaurant.
She should have come forward to us & politely asking us to register in their register book which could have giving us a better customer experience, better perception & better enjoyment to my family to dine in the restaurant.
I would like to appraise all their waitress/ waitresses that their are very attentive and helpful to their customer. Kudos to the waitress/ waitresses ๐๐for executing their duties but very very disappointed to the owner of the way she treated my family ๐๐๐๐๐
I would have given a negative star to the overall experience if I have that option.
This is my 1ST & LAST TIME that I will dine at this restaurant. Beware to other diner if you want to be embarrassed...
ย ย ย Read moreUpdate: 2025. Food is underwhelming and the cook has no heart in cooking, can see in the messy lasagna presentation and it tasted cheap and diluted in taste/a little watery, the cordon bleu chicken is like some cheap low class junior cooking. Mash patoto is too creamy for any worthy taster.
A good comparison is eating at Charlie's Cafe in Taman Danua Desa which is 5 stars in their chicken dishes compared to this place (2 stars - am being generous here because this place used to have good standards but they're just lazy in preserving good standards in the food they offer) which is now a relic of the ancient days. The Malay staff got our order wrong when I updated the menu order and defended herself to say we got our orders wrong. Sure. Whatever. We ate it out of not wanting to waste food we paid for. Anyhow, last time we'll be coming to this place.
Below is my old review. This old review was 8 years ago. Food is western inspired. Loved their dishes. Friendly staff (Reasonably...
