Disappointing. Shocked that this is supposedly “famous fried rice”. I wished I had not wasted time, going through heavy traffic and very difficult parking in this area. The cooks are two young kids and a foreign worker, not the old man. The fried rice : Severely uncooked. It was hard, crusty and we only could eat a few spoons. The rice also lacked any ingredients.. you can see they try to mask it with thick sauce plus MSG. Black soya sauce all over the egg. All I could taste was artificial flavorings over plain, uncooked rice. I didn’t dare feed to my young daughter, may cause stomachache.
I returned it and ask them to re-do. The two kids were wasting time, didn’t even re-cook quickly, as they were waiting for the foreign worker to come take over, then they went to relax. The re-cooked fried rice was equally bad. This time they threw in even more MSG so it was extra salty. And this time, the crusty parts were burnt. He didn’t even cook a fresh plate. I had no other choice but to leave the plate mostly uneaten.
My advise: Skip this place and get your fried rice Elsewhere - lots other places just a few km away but quality more consistent. I would give this place Zero star or negative stars if I...
Read moreWithout a doubt, I think this one is better than Uncle Roger's, but still not the best fried rice I've had. but in comparison with UR, this one gives a far better value. I ordered the Pork + Prawn Spicy version. It's quite fulfilling if you order the big. I feel its lacking of greens and some texture contrast. The sambal belacan is the spicy sour kind and they dont charge u extra if u want to tambah. The runny fried egg with a tinge of soy sauce is good. I like that. Would be even better if its edges are fried crispy. Overall, it's an above average good fried rice. The menu is simple and straight forward. The kitchen is open for everyone to see the action. At least you get to tell that it's cooked by human chef instead of a machine. It's hard to get roadside parking, but there's ample paid parking in the basement. Would I come back...
Read moreAs someone who's used to having Uncle Soon fried rice from the days they were just a small stall at the end of the corner food court, the flavour and quality has really gone down the drain. Went to get some fried rice today and was totally disappointed.
It's just 10% the flavour of what it used to be. The rice is still a bit starchy like there's not enough wok heat. The signature flavour is so diluted yet the rice is oily. This isn't the Uncle Soon fried rice that I've been having since almost a decade ago.
This is what happens when you try to scale up with foreign labour but the soul of the business is lost. The price has gone up significantly too. A serving of XL prawn fried rice came in at RM12, while the flavour is just a shadow of it's...
