This is one of those must-try places. A speakeasy café opposite Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC). It is run by the friendliest people who share a passion for great coffee. They even roast their own beans as you'd be able to see from the roaster housed in the back.
I ordered the iced mocha and before I review it, I need you to understand that I'm the sort of person who normally sweetens my lattes and mochas to drown out the coffee's acidity—which happens quite a fair bit. I didn't need to do that here at the Octagon Café. The coffee was so smooth and oh, so delicious. The kind that makes you see colour in flowers again; that makes you feel like that person on a TV-sitcom enjoying a hot one while it's snowing outside. Magical, in other words.
To go with the wizardry-infused beverage, I ordered their berries cream cheese bar. A fruity-sort of brownie that was rich but not overbearing. It was great, but in retrospect, would go better with tea instead—it makes me curious to try the lemon cream bar on my next visit.
There are no non-dairy alternatives. Understandable, as I don't believe barista-grade almond/soy/oat milk are as accessible in Terengganu as they would be in Kuala Lumpur.
The inside can feel a little stuffy and because there're no open windows or the like, the sound inside the café bounces around and may get overwhelming if it's a full house.
That aside, RM10 for the iced mocha, RM10 for the brownie, and you got yourself a splendid experience. If you find yourself in Kuala Terengganu, give these coffee wizards a try. I did and I can't wait for...
Read moreI initially planned to take away coffee from this café, but after seeing the ambiance, I decided to try their cappuccino as well and dine here. The inviting atmosphere here caught my attention. With dim lighting and strategically placed highlights, accompanied by soft music that perfectly matches the vibe, it’s a cozy spot.
I brought home their latte and americano, but the coffee beans used here are truly unique. The americano has a slightly earthy taste with a hint of acidity, almost citrus-like, which adds a unique character to the drink. After tasting the cappuccino here, It made me realize that what I had before wasn’t even a real cappuccino. The coffee here is exceptional and perfect for coffee enthusiasts.
The staff are incredibly kind and always smiling—respect for their excellent service. The prices here are also very affordable compared to “famous coffee shops that are overpriced.” Though this café is tucked away in a less prominent location, if you’re a true coffee lover, you’ll find it. Truly the best in town, no...
Read moreI did ordered a long black and caramel machiato. The long black taste is quite unique. As it taste the same as marcala bean (honduras). As the machiato is decent but I think the coffee extraction could be better. The tasting notes seems off. But anyway good ambience and the prices are acceptable for a local cafè. Mr.barista is friendly, recommended for private and quite place to hang out. p/s: we need this kind of cafè in KL for god sake, I'll go here everyday in the first place for...
