Fra Giuseppe — Restaurant in Balzan

I’ve been to this restaurant twice, the first time in winter and now again today in summer. The first visit was great. Today, however, I had one of the worst experiences I’ve had in Malta.

I believe it’s due to poor summer management. I ordered the pasta with mushrooms and cheese, and it came completely unsalted. The pasta was sliced and served in a pan that was totally tasteless — what’s the point of that? Where’s the plate? The grated cheese?

They were playing extremely loud electronic gym music, which was the complete opposite of the cozy vibe the place tries to convey. It was disturbing to hear that music so loud. It felt like the restaurant was trying to increase turnover by blasting music to make people leave as quickly as possible.

We asked for some salt and the waitress took a while. We saw her asking someone else to bring it to our table — it was just salt. I couldn’t understand the delay, it’s something so simple to just grab and bring. Meanwhile, the food in that awful pan was getting cold.

There were other issues too, but honestly, I don’t even have the energy to go into all of them. Just...

Super disappointed is a massive understatement. Booked a table for 3 people on Tuesday and received a message from Yan on Friday morning to confirm, to which I replied. After spending 30 minutes looking for parking, we were informed that there is no table available, there is nothing they can do to give us a table inside due to a function being held, and that the only alternative would be to stay outside in the cold and wind. After initially being reluctant to stay outside, my friends encouraged me to give it a shot. After a few minutes, the staff was going to take away the heater from us. We booked for the NYE party of 2019 at Fra Giuseppe back in November for a group of 13 people. At that time, our booking was CONFIRMED and we were instructed by staff members to pay later in December. We went to pay them 2 weeks before NYE only to find out that they never even listed us in their booking.

Sincerely, thank you Fra Giuseppe staff and management for your incompetence. You left us with a tremendous hassle to find a new venue for NYE (a big group of 13 ppl mind you) on such short notice; barely any availability and missing out on any early bird discounts. Not to mention that we got separated from other friends who were encouraged by us to book for your party.
