Trattoria Ix-Xatba — Restaurant in Mellieha

We stayed in Mellieha for 3 nights, came to the restaurant twice and would have kept coming if we could. We tried the lobster, rabbit, pulpetta and bragioli and it was all DELICIOUS!! The food was incredible, the wine was so good and they had a very very big selection of them. One of the best things was the ambiance and friendliness of their staff. Every day we came in we were treated so warmly and caring, everyone who worked there was happy and excellent at taking care of us. We felt welcomed in this very cozy restaurant and our experience there just made the holiday better. The first time I visited here,my wife and I had the octopus starters. It was very good.

The second time we visited, we had mussels in white wine sauce, (very good) followed by octopus with spaghetti (not good.) The spaghetti was dry with no sauce and little flavor. The octopus was rubbery.

Yesterday we tried again...fish risotto and fish with noodles. The risotto was more like a soup, and again the spaghetti was dry an with little flavor.

Too bad, we live 2 minutes...

Very good. Fresh fish. We had a fish soup, tomato soup and octopus as starters. Fresh sea fish as main with local potatos and veg. Warm apple pie and dates pastry with ice cream. Everything was excellent, delicious. We were reluctant about potatos and veg because of previous experiences that were simply terrible. Maltese cooks seem to be hell bend on just this option.
