Cool little bar in the heart of Mellieha. Great place to catch a football game. I was on holiday in Mellieha when the Manchester United vs Liverpool game was on and wanted to find a good spot with a bit of atmosphere that was nearby to watch it in. I saw some reviews and decided to give Square Bar a try and I'm glad I did. The bar isn't the biggest in the world its only a small one but it's a really cool one. From the short time I was in there watching the match I could tell it was a friendly hangout for the locals. Even though everybody around was speaking Maltese and I think I may have been the only English person there and most. people seemed to support Liverpool or Manchester City I still felt like I was welcome there. Everybody seemed to know each other and the owner. The owner seemed really friendly, went round to entertain and speak to different groups at the bar and at one point layed out small plates of nacho's to every table without charging. The price of the drinks were fairly cheap although the only bad thing about the place was that there were no beers on draught, everything was sold in cans. I'm not sure if this was common in Malta or not or just because it was only a small bar. There were lots of screens to watch different sports events on and the atmosphere was good. It's really easy to find as well as it's 1min away from the big church on the square. Highly recommended if you're over visiting in Mellieha and looking for somewhere closeby with a bit of atmosphere to watch a...
Read moreI am intolerant to mushrooms, but I'll get to it very quickly.
Was there for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Dinner.. Tagliata with Pepper sauce. I avoid bread with actual dishes. I consumed the bread that came with the serving. The meat was cooked to perfection. But the sauce. FFS!! I had to scrape every last bit of it from the plate.
Lunch.. Bistro Chips (side of cheesy cream with bacon). Very good. Not momentarily life-changing but very very good.
Breakfast.. Had an English breakfast. OK, fair enough: To mess up an English breakfast you must be a damn fool. But to get me to eat the mushrooms (well.. a part of the portion) you have to be good... and this place is simply amazing. The mushrooms are aromatised with herbs. (Intentionally not sharing more info).
The food is absolutely delicious. The location is amazing... in a square opposite a church.. a quiet area. The Staff... service with a smile and they know how to handle their patrons and their responsibilities. Every last one of the staff... well done.
A must to be here. Yes here. Typing this just after finishing dinner. It's that good! Oh right... the prices. They should charge more!...

We used to be regular customers at Square in Mellieħa, but after our most recent visit, we won’t be returning — and neither will our families.
While the starters were actually quite good, everything went downhill from there. The main courses were extremely disappointing, especially the risotto with pesto, which was not only poorly executed but ironically listed as a “specialty.” It was borderline inedible.
We politely raised our concerns, expecting at least an apology or some gesture of goodwill. The waiter/manager simply said, “Oh that’s bad, I understand,” and walked away. No compensation, no effort to make it right — not even a complimentary digestif or coffee.
When a restaurant fails in quality and in service recovery, it’s hard to justify going back. Sadly, we’ll be taking our business elsewhere, and we’ll be letting...
