We celebrated the kind of 30th birthday (or so, I am not good with numbers) and had a nice table outside. It's a lovely location, not crowded, pretty quiet and has a really nice atmosphere. Staff is very friendly, professional and tries all to make your stay great. We had wine which was very good tempered and tasted definitely nice. Starters were nice as far as I was recognizing on the faces of the others. And I can confirm due to the taste as well as presentation of my Lampuki Ceviche that the starters were more than nice, it was great. The main dishes party show unfortunately another side of the coin. Most of the people ordered deep fried fish and calamari - sorry, it was tasteless, not served with the announced fish and after all just a paper bag of an Italian way of 'fish and chips' without fish. The steak someone ordered looked great and was for sure very tasty as the plate was empty within short time. I finally had a swordfish Tatar with some fruits which was supposed to be great. Unfortunately it was technically a fruit salad with some pieces of fish - the ratio between fruits and fish was - let's say- in favor of the restaurant. Or maybe it was written in the desert section and I just didn't realize??? The deserts were also of mixed quality. While the ice-cream looked good (I didn't taste) and the Tiramisu looked amazing, the Cannoli were pretty boring. Espresso smelled a lovely but was a bit weak in taste - nothing bad with this as tastes are different. Overall they need to be more consistent when it comes to quality and the right ratio of ingredients and they sld put way more attention when it comes to season the dishes. The restaurant is at the higher end of prices - the love of preparing, cooking and presenting incl the ratio of cheaper and more expensive ingredients sld match the requesting amount of money. I will give it another try and look forward to giving them a chance to show a better overall...
Read moreWe arrived early for a drink whilst waiting for the others. So far so good. Staff was nice and calm. The others arrived a bit late and after around 20 minutes we summoned the waiter for our orders and he came running with a board of specialities which for us was not necessary after we made up our minds and of course we were left waiting again. We ordered and the starters arrived. All well and good but after we finished, it took a very long time to clear the table and give us new cutlery and napkins. I summoned the waiters twice. The staff was running around like crazy with no organisation at all. When I asked regarding our mains, I noticed that the restaurant was nearly empty and the owner told us because he wanted to make sure our food was great. At that point we were no longer hungry. When the pasta arrived, I told him that I was not that hungry anymore, he used the word nervosita' meaning you are nervous in Italian. For me that is arrogant behaviour. They forgot the sides with the mains and we just stopped eating as the atmosphere was all ruined for us.
My expectations of this place was very high but it was all ruined with this kind of arrogance and service. Dining out is not just the food but the service and the treatment.
If you want to go there, sit outside and you will get their full attention. Sit inside and be forgotten. That was our...
Read moreWe visited this place since we saw that it was reviewed well, however food is below average.
We had fillet and carbonara. Taste of the fillet is poor and it looks like broth meat. Guanciale of the carbonara looks and tastes like speck. They said it's because it is cut in thin slices, but if the chef knows what s/he cooking, guanciale is normally cut in thick strips and it contains more fat than meat. Apart from the fact that if cooked well, guanciale retains a nice crunch and tastes way better than speck or pancetta. We order these plates in many locations around Malta, Gozo and Italy. The review score is overrated.
The thing we liked is that the restaurant is located in a nice & quiet area.
Further to your reply to my unbiased review, the eggs sauce of the carbonara is not supposed to be cooked, but only heated with the pasta when the pasta is ready. On the other hand your 'guanciale' is not crispy. Instead of taking a defensive stand, you should take criticism in a more humble manner, and if there's any wrongdoing you should try to make your product better. Your 2 star review is reduced to 1 star, reflecting...
