Ramla Bay is a stunning beach located on the northern coast of the island of Malta. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Malta and is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and golden sand. The beach is situated in the town of Xaghra, which is located on the eastern coast of the island.
Ramla Bay is a natural bay, with a large expanse of sand that stretches over 800 meters in length. The sand is soft and golden in color, which makes it a perfect spot for sunbathing and relaxing. The waters of Ramla Bay are calm and clear, making it an ideal place for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities.
One of the most unique features of Ramla Bay is the surrounding countryside. The beach is situated in a valley that is surrounded by green hills and fields. This creates a picturesque setting that is both peaceful and idyllic. There are also several trails in the area that offer hikers and nature lovers the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside.
Ramla Bay is also home to a number of historical sites and landmarks. One of the most notable is Calypso's Cave, which is located on the western side of the beach. According to legend, this cave was the home of the nymph Calypso, who held the Greek hero Odysseus captive for seven years.
In addition to its natural beauty and historical significance, Ramla Bay is also a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. There are a number of facilities on the beach, including restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as a number of water sports equipment rental shops.
Overall, Ramla Bay is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Malta. Its stunning natural beauty, clear waters, and unique historical significance make it one of the most popular beaches in the country. Whether you're looking to relax and soak up the sun, or explore the surrounding countryside, Ramla Bay has something for everyone.

The only actual beach on Gozo, which was a nice change for the kids in our family. We all had a great time, at a beach we’ve been going to for two decades, and seen becoming more and more popular with tourists.
I see in the reviews that people talk of rocks and not actual sand. The beaches of Gozo are strongly affected by heavy weather, meaning the rock/sand distribution can change quite abruptly. For us this was not a problem, we went a bit over half the beach, towards west, where there was plenty of sand and easy access to the water for the kids. I really can’t understand the “complaints”.
A big plus is the shapeability of the sand, meaning the kids loved to play in the sand!
Water was lovely, with a few waves, which was just fun. More than pleasant temperature, even in October. Probably around 27 degrees.
The popularity has both positive and negative sides. Negative, as there are more tourists, however this was not a problem now in early October. Positive, as there are easy access to sunbeds and decent food, ice cream and toy store for the kids.
Really good day at the beach, and a nice change from the rocky cliffs and stoney beaches of Gozo.
NB: during summer, the sand becomes dangerously hot to walk on barefeet.

I once heard Madonna the singer posed in front of Madonna statue in Ramla Beach. I guess it is not true. This evening picture shows the glow of lights from Sicily.
There’s a well-known statue on Ramla Beach in Gozo, Malta—called Our Lady of Hope—which depicts the Virgin Mary (sometimes referred to as Madonna) and the infant Jesus. It was originally erected in 1881 by John (Ġanni) Gauci to safeguard sailors, replaced in 1966, and restored in recent years
However, the singer Madonna has not been seen posing by this statue. There are no credible photos, reports, or social‑media evidence indicating that she visited Ramla Bay and posed in front of the Madonna statue.
It seems like a mix-up of names: “Madonna” (the pop icon) versus “Madonna” (an Italian term for the Virgin Mary). In this case, they overlap in English, but there’s no real connection between the singer and the beach statue.
In summary:
Statue of Our Lady of Hope is real and historic.
No indication Madonna (the performer) ever posed there.
Likely just a name coincidence.

Ramla Beach is, without a doubt, the finest beach available to visit in Gozo and, arguably, across Malta more widely.
The beach comes complete with soft sandy shorelines; clear water that offers pristine views of the marine life; warm waves that tempt you to remain in the water for hours, and plenty of space for setting out a few beach chairs and towels - for those that arrive early enough in the morning to avoid the crowds.
During my visit to Ramla Beach, I had the pleasure of spending hours floating in the Mediterranean observing the fish and flora only a few feet beneath the water. It was, and is, an experience I won’t forget for the rest of my life.
The area surrounding the beach is a little less developed than some of the other beaches, such as Marsalforn, so visitors may find it more challenging to find nearby bars and restaurants. However, for those that are seeking to avoid the crowds and busy streets of more traditionally tourist areas, Ramla Beach may be a refreshing chance to engage with immense natural beauty.

A TripAdvisor recommendation and a Google maps verifier, due to the satellite image showing red sand. The sand is enjoyable to walk (or draw) on and the sea is generally warm however slightly wavy. The beach was near empty in mid November. Regardless of the waves, it was a pleasant surprise to come to the beach without a trace of wind while the rest of our stay was windy. There are no showers on board and the 2 bars nearby weren't open at this time of year. The beach is bordered by buoys from the sea and even though it is a very open beach it seems safe and peaceful. the lonely beautiful beach was splendid, having a small stream entering the sea at it and generally giving peaceful and rehabilitating views. In the near surroundings of the beach there are cactus fields with charming fruits. Olives are also produced in the micro region. And its just a 15 to 20 minute ride to Gozo's capital. On the way back you can also visit the Ggantija temples. Definitely would recommend the beach, while its low season at least.

I love this beach, but I don't like the amount of disrespect, mainly from ignorant tourists that leave litter everywhere.
I'm an environmentalist and scuba diver. Already we (diving community) have become the unofficial caretakers of clearing/collecting rubbish under the surface, and most scuba diving schools operate a volunteer beach clean up. It's astonishing what I find on the beaches of the Maltese islands (lots of shotgun shells, where some locals kill birds (yes, illegal), but the government turns a blind eye to it. Police are ineffective in doing anything. Thankfully, that's not the case with Ramla, but apart from the litter in where my family upon leaving if we see any plastic or other rubbish whilst exiting we pick it up and dispose of it responsibly in the so called "recycling bins"
If you like small/medium rocks with sand, then choose the middle and left side of the beach, soft sand and clear entry into the sea, right side of the beach.
If you visit this little gem of a beach, yes, and that includes all the Maltese that come over to Gozo in their hordes every Thursday for a long weekend please take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided and that includes your cigarette butts. Thank you.

As beaches go, this was one of the prettiest ones.I have seen here. The day that we were there. The wind was so violent that there was red flags flying. However a lot of people were in the ocean they do have lifeguards watching over which obviously ignored the red flags. The sand is a deep caramel color it looks like crushed up biscuff cookies!!! The wonderful thing is that it has facilities bathrooms and showers and a small restaurant which we did not try. There is a company of men that put up lounge chairs and umbrellas add a cost. Write outside of the beach. We also found a very\nIndustrious man that obviously used his land for a parking for a fee of two euros. There are also several outlets with bathing suits and floaties and things like that if you forgot yours. The road to get there was a little bit harrowing for those of us that don't drive On the left hand of the road because the streets are very narrow and they are two way streets!!! Put all in all a very nice experience. HowEver there are a lot of rocks in the sand so it's hard to figure out where to put your towel if you decide not to get one of the deck chairs!

Ramla Bay is a beautiful beach located on the northern coast of Malta, a small Mediterranean island country in Europe. The bay is situated on the outskirts of the small village of Xaghra, in the island of Gozo, which is the second largest island of Malta.
The beach itself is famous for its unique reddish-golden sand, which sets it apart from most other beaches in Malta. The water is crystal clear and the bay is sheltered from the wind, making it a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing.
Surrounded by lush greenery and rocky cliffs, Ramla Bay is not only a great place for a swim but also a fantastic spot for hiking and exploring the beautiful countryside of Gozo. The bay is also home to a number of archaeological sites, including the remains of a Roman villa and a Punic cemetery.
Ramla Bay is easily accessible by car or public transport, with a regular bus service connecting it to the rest of the island. There are also several restaurants and cafes in the area, making it a great place to spend a day soaking up the sun and enjoying the local cuisine.

Thought it was the beach of dreams reading the reviews being blue flag but not at all.
Very disappointing area.
All set up for tourists, cafes, toilets showers etc, but otherthan the very fine sand, and sun, nothing to write home about.
The sea is warm but being able to get in it, is a trek in itself. Ankle breaking pebbles go as far as your legs will take you, and the water remains at circa 600mm deep, so you end up lying in the pebbles / rocks and not swimming.
A floatation device, Li-lo or similar would be ideal, but alot of faffing for a swim.
Definitely will not be returning.
Facilities and bus route easy to get to, but a sea without being able to swim is like toast without marmalade or jam. Not great.
Mark HardingMark Harding
Beautiful beach on Gozo, it's not massive but there's always plenty of space.
The beach is sandy but to enter the sea there's like a layer of stones/pebbles to negotiate... Best just jumping in and swimming as soon as it is deep enough.
Can rent a sunbed, umbrella and peddle boats.
There's a beach bar/cafe and a few little retailers selling beach things.
Parking is by the road and can get busy, there's a bus stop in walking distance.
Turtles nest there and egg hatch around August.
Nite: it gets very busy at weekends.
